I reread my copy of the book today again and saw that in the photo of three children in front of the big snowman , the front kid was refered to as omar, but the wruter wasn't quite sure, i thought it was a young olaf (it does look like him), if that film was that old and was used to give monty warning messages, i dont see how it works out.
also, making a whole movie just to send coded messages is a bit extravagant i think.
any queries?

Here's my theory about the use of the movie to send coded messages: The movie was filmed ahead of time, and the coded message sequence was filmed and added in(or they just recorded the dialog for it and dubbed that into the appropriate scene) just before it was released.

Yeah. The coded scene could have been made in case it was needed, but not put in right away in case it wasn't.

I don't think it was extravagant to make a movie just for coded info to pass to other VFDers because if the movie's good, it'll also make money; more volunteers will also come, or they won't get the message.
Which wasn't Uncle Monty's case.

Which wasn't Uncle Monty's case. Making bad movies at a loss would make sense for the V.F.D., since all members know to attend Sebald movies for the messages and they don't really care if outsiders see them or not. (Assuming the V.F.D. has lots of money, and the movies appear to be low-budget anyway).

I just accept it as a chronological inconsistency in the U.A., although if theories are made up to work around these, I'm happy.
And I agree with what just about everyone else said on movies codes etc.

I think that when Olaf was in V.F.D, they used Visualised (sp) Film Deliverers, where they would make scenes and code them, so when an emergency happened (Stephano/ Olaf) they could add that scene in right before the "final" movie was released. Make sense? So they would have one for "assistant not real, beware!" or "don't drink soup, beware!" or something.

The films seemed to be a very cheap and discreet way to send messages to toher members, as nobody else would want to see them.
