From your example Jerome I don't think it's just the hispanics in your school being rude. I agree with what others have said there's good and bad people in every race obviously, you can't just judge on one group of people.

I don't think Jerome was trying to be racist- he simply needed to word his opinion a little differently. And besides, why is everyone so touchy? I mean sure, race is a very sensive topic and people can be easily offended, but really, this discussion board is for mature people. Anyone mature will not find it difficult to understand that everyone has different views and be able to accept that. We shouldn't make our judgements on entire races just from a few individuals, that would be wrong. But we also can't label someone just from a few sentences. I was really surprised that people actually started throwing insults at each other. And is swearing really neccessary?

Like Swans pointed out, PA doesn't have a large population of hispanics. Maybe Jerome hasn't been exposed to other cultures or diversity. I went to high school in a small suburb outside Minneapolis. My school was predominately white and my best friend was one of the only two African-Americans that went to my school. Maybe where Jerome goes to school these kids stick together because they have something in common (their race, how and where they grew up, and how others treat or percieve them). As Swans and others pointed out, they probably do act tough to protect themselves, for who knows how they've been treated themselves. With racism, abortion, religion, etc. , it's important to choose your words carefully. Everyone has different backrounds and live in different enviorments. We all grow up with different people in our lives, and we are all not raised the same. Some of us are in high school or college or graduated from college; some of us are married with children. I'm not trying to insinuate that Jerome is some country hick, but maybe he just isn't exposed to certain things as others. When someone wants to know about other cultures, we should educate instead of breed more insults. That doesn't help racism.

The Hispanics in my school are really annoying. They are really obnoxious, rude, and think that they are so tough, like they own the place. Now I am definitely not racist, but there is not a single, decent one of them. How are the Hispanics in all of your schools... Maybe it's just the ones here, in ________... For the first time in a long time, Jerry, I agree with you. Well, not fully but-- It's the same in my school. Everyone's annoying. But my school is dominated by blacks and hispanics so it's like they're doing it more than the white kids, y'know? I know it's not because they're black or Hispanic. I mean--argh. I am saying this whole thing wrong. But then again, there is no right way to say this. But I'm not racist. I mean, I don't see a Hispanic person and think, "Damn them all." But when a certan Hispanic person pelts paper balls at me, I think "damn you". And they just happen-- I sound so potato ing ignorant. *sigh* I--Why am I even going to submit this? Ugh. It's just...uckkkkk....I just notice that Hispanic kids torment me more than white kids but only because there are more Hispanic kids than white kids.

Hahaha, thanks J... And I can't remember who said something about they are sure the Hispanics in my school aren't the only ignorant people, and you are absolutely correct... They aren't... But the majority of the ignorant people come from them... And it's mainly because they think they are better, because they are Hispanic... And just so everybody knows... I have two best friends... I have plenty of close friends, but two best friends, and one is black... So, I pretty much know for a fact, that I am not racist...

Gosh, they sure think they're better than us blondes... people with brown hair are so horrible! And I'm not prejudiced, because one of my best friends has black hair. So that must mean I don't judge people by their hair color, right? (My comment above was pretty much taking sarcasm to the extreme, and it might have been kinda mean... ignore me as you will >_< )

Rule of thumb: never say "my best friends are [insert minority] here."

I think it all depends on whether you've done something to make them be rude to you--did you ever say anything or get confrontational with one of them? Because if someone did that to me, I wouldn't exactly be all that nice to them. Some of the Hispanic people at my school aren't very nice to people...but it's because they've given them a reason to get on their case, you know what I mean? It has nothing to do with their race, and they aren't any less obnoxious than a whole lot of other people at my school. I know a lot of Hispanic people and they can be really nice if you just treat them like you would anybody else. I'd get pissed if people were constantly assuming that I was a jerk, too.
And even if you haven't done anything for them to dislike you, then it's obviously not their fault, and it has nothing to do with their race. After all, there are a whole lot of white people who are racist and would treat Hispanics and African-Americans like dirt, which is so not cool.
Plus, it all depends on how you look at the meaning of the word ignorant. I see ignorant as not paying attention in class, being disrespectful to teachers and other people. There are plenty of people that talk while the teacher is, throw insults back and forth and are always talking about beating somone up. A Hispanic girl in my class works really hard to bring up her grades, and when everyone else was being extremely rude to our substitute, she was one of the only ones who tried to get the class back under order--which does not strike me as ignorant in the least.

Why? What does it matter? And as for MambaduMal... Why don't you just dye your hair? It was a made-up situation... I was trying to make a point and I guess it didn't work so well... So why don't the hispanics just powder their skin to make it paler, acquire a specific accent, and act like Caucasian Americans do? Would that make it better?
