I'm in.
Speaking of friends, one of the problems is finding age appropriate stuff. A book that interests a 10 year old won't neccesarily interest a 20 year old.

I saw it next to "Carmelita Spats, the Cutest, Nicest, Prettiest Girl In The Whole Wide World"
How do we decide who decides the first book? This club might need a leader.

Well, the way we do bookies at school, it can be any genre (but we usually agree on fiction). The books we choose are adult, not like smut adult. The way Mrs. Stenner described them was by saying there was this one book she read about a guy who wrote a dictionary or something smart like that. He was brilliant, but he kept on having these sexual nightmares. One night when he was extremely ashamed about them, he decided to castrate himself, and I guess it describes the event quite vividly. That's sorta what I mean. We won't read books about people castrating themselves, but rather books that may deal with adult concepts, as long as its revelant to the plot (the incident in that book was revelant because the book was about him being a psychotic genius). Sound ok? And I think that we should let each person in turn nominate a book rather than automatically choose it, and then as long as half agree on it, it sticks. That should help smooth over any major problems. And if you don't like the book chosen for that period of time, you don't need to read it, but you can still join in on the discussions, because discussions are known to waiver. Good or no? Sorry if it's incoherent. I'm sleeeepy. Oh, and a note on the adult themes, etc., perhaps we could get a list of the ages of everyone who wants to be involved? Age aside, from what I've seen on this board, I think everyone is mature enough to handle most of what's out there (though they may choose not to act accordingly), so correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see that as much of a problem. And anyone who would join a "book club" of sorts has got to have at least a shred of intelligence. One last emphasis: I WILL NOT READ MADAME BOVARY. That is a hard and evil book and it does not deserve to taint our peachy little gathering here. Happy trails!

Ok, so far, in order of who posted:
MoonyGirl21 Lazlo Woodbine, Private Eye Rikku MambaduMal DeadlyViper pennyroyal * isadora swans ** Pester negativenine MadameViolet
* You want to read books? I'm not sure. You talked, but not about this. If yes, than, well, there you are. If no, then there you aren't.
** I know you said you don't join clubs, but this isn't a club, rather an arrangement to read and discuss books other than those that are already here (ASoUE, HP, LotR . . . ), so unless you don't wanna read extra books, hop on the bandwagon! Er, wow, that sounded corny. Oh well, you get the idea.
Any mistakes? Additional ideas? Concerns? How about intros? Haha, just for laughs, ok? I'm Jen/Moony, I'm 17 for a few more days, and I like to read fantasy, science fiction, regular fiction, manga, etc. Just about anything I guess! What about you?

another point in support of your nomination idea as opposed to selection by a member... availability... some of us are poor and would need a library to carry that book or something...or a certain book might not be released in your area...
i'll do an intro thing too... i'm BSam or Laz...whatever... 19 for 19 more days(as i type) i read almost anything...last five books i've read were minority report by phillip K dick and 4 peirs anthony Xanth books...yeah...but that gives no real indicatioon to the overall books i read...i just got a new library card and hadn't read any xanth books for a while...
