As I said, I do not have time to read an 849 page book.
Anyways, we need to find some small list of books we all agree on, and then vote from that, and not just keep adding new book ideas, or we'll never be able to choose one to read. So, if people could start saying which they like of what was already mentioned, rather than suggesting new ones, that'd be good.
Well, here's descriptions of the one's Timar suggested:
Small Avalanches: Subject Heading(s) : Adolescence--Fiction. Youth--Fiction. Coming of age--Fiction. Short stories. Description : 390 p. ; 19 cm. Notes : A collection of twelve short stories for young people including "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been," "Life After High School," and "How I Contemplated the World."
Freaky Green Eyes: Subject Heading(s) : Family violence--Fiction. Fathers and daughters--Fiction. Mothers and daughters--Fiction. Psychological abuse--Fiction. Murder--Fiction. Description : 341 p. ; 19 cm. Notes : Fifteen-year-old Frankie relates the events of the year leading up to her mother's mysterious disappearance and her own struggle to discover and accept the truth about her parents' relationship.

I think Freaky Green Eyes because I was thinking about it and I sometimes quit reading short story books because I don't have to finish them.

I will say, though, that while my mom says 'A Spell for Chameleon' is good, it's really really slow at the start (I've never gotten through the first chapter, but then again, I haven't tried lately, but my mom says it gets better later). Also, there are currently 27 novels that come after that (it's his 'Xanth trilogy'... 3x3x3=27), not that we'd have to read all of them. i think this would be a good one... and it would give me an excuse to go back and try to read the whole 'trilogy' again(perhaps in order...)once i get the motivation to start on the first one... so...this is where my current vote is...i havn't looked at that site tho...i'll post this then give it a look edit: hum, the site didn't really have much i'd read...apart from the aforementioned xanth book or the hitch hikers guide to the galaxy... but if other people choose cool boks i'll give them a read for the club...i need to find new books to read anyway

So, the ones voted on as of now are "Freaky Green Eyes" (with 2) and "A Spell for Chameleon" (with 1). Any other voters?
I'd like to add that I think it would be neat to read Anna Karenina, but a book of that magnitude should be saved until more spare time is available (i.e. summer break). If other people like the idea, we could do it then (and maybe make it a 'summer project,' depending how long it takes, so no one would have to rush to read it in some insane amount of time).

Matilda may be just a tad too short...
I'll go with whatever you guys go with, both Freaky Green Eyes and A Spell for Cameleon sound good.
And I wouldn't mind doing Anna (hmmm... somehow that sounds a little wrong... heh) this summer, either... but right now it's probably a little too much to handle.

If we're going to read Anna Karenina, the people who don't have it can read it at www.bartleby.com

Or, they could get it from their local library. It's a famous book, I'd imagine every library has at least a few copies.

Yeah, but that's my problem. There aren't any libraries near where I live , and it's summer break now so I won't be able to borrow books from my school library.

You should read the book, it's different from the movie. The whole thing in the Trunchbull's house never happened. Why don't we read some Edgar Allan Poe?

How about we stop bringing up new books and decide on one of the books mentioned already? You can suggest other books for the next one, but if we don't decide on one soon, it'll never get started!

This sounds much more interesting than 12 "coming-of-age" stories... mark me down for "Green Eyes".
