Interesting article, swans, but it's making the vein on my forehead pop up. The oath should be revised if there are so many non-Christians in the courtroom. *moans* I can not abide church and state together. It results, eventually, into a dictatorship where the ruler is given divine power. And religious wars. And discrimination. Well put. In my history class I learned about divine right rule, which was very bad. Not to mention the Crusades; I don't want to live through a rerun of those wars. Also, religious rule has lead to unjust killings, like the Salem witch trials.

I have a right to free belief, so doesn't matter if I'm the president or just a regular Joe, I have a right to mix politics with religion. And now you can see why I don't vote for democrats, you guys are slowly gonna take my religious rights away, first it'll be seperation from church and state, then it'll be "Under god" and then we'll all have to get the 666 mark printed on are hands, and if we don't, we'll be killed.

Was that whole post a joke, or just the last bit? And I think that you show a fundamental misunderstanding of the issue, if you were completely serious.

I hope he's joking, but since he was dead serious or seemingly so in his other religio-political posts, he probably isn't. Alas, I weep for humanity.
The 666 bit might have been a joke, but for debate's sake I'll interpret it as serious. Forcing us to get 666 tattooed on our hands would be an endorsement of Satanism, forcing religious beliefs on others. And just because the government doesn't endorse Christianity doesn't mean it will force us to worship Satan.
Seuss, would you be in favor of combining church and state if someone else's church ran the state?

No that post wasn't a joke, later in the future I can see 666 coming (but far into the future).
I have no problem if someone basis their religious views on politics.

You're an idiot and yuou shouldn't be breathing.Separation of Church and State is not taking away one's right to worship. It is mmerely presenting an unbiased view in which religion does not cloud a politica leader's judgement. Basing your actions on one religion, rather than facts, is unfair to the country. You can still worship and speak out againsyt gfay marriage for example. Those are you rights. However, you cannot take away other's rights. Oh, and absence of church does not mean Satanism, you asshole.

Assuming the seperation of churhc and state. "Church" there does not have anything to do with the Christian church, or the Jewish church, or the (is it techncally cult, or technically church?) Church/cult of Wicca.
It encompasses all of thsoe things and more, leaving a state that is, effectively, neutral when it comes to religion. While the freedom of religion still remains, the churches cannot affect the government beyond any extent that specific groups do.

I agree with that, but one minor quibble: Wicca is technically a church, not a cult.

You guys have probably talked about whatever I'm going to say so you can just ignore me.
I think there should be seperation between church and state because the church normally only represents one religion so those who don't follow that religion are not fairly represented. Personally I dislike when people use the bible to back them up, and thats their only reason for beleiving something becuse the bible said so. Normally the bible can be contradicted and has no place in matters of the law.
