No, the other animals on this planet are not evolving to become humans. They're evolving in their own ways, to better adapt to their environments and pass on their genes. Who knows, maybe in a million years humans will be extinct(perhaps through our own doing) and rodents will have evolved to become the dominant species. The common ancestor of humans and apes is a now-extinct being, an ancestral primate. I'm not entirely sure, but it might have been something like the modern great apes, or perhaps a monkey. See this site for more on creationism, explained better than I could: skepdic.com/creation.htmlA common misconception about evolutionists is that they're all atheists. However, I believe in the supernatural but try to take a scientific approach to the evolution debate. I like the theory of "theistic evolution", which states that evolution happened but was started off or directed by a supernatural being--not necessarily a specific god. M: So...the bible is right because it says it's right? (Blatently stolen from J.) That's a prime example of circular logic. You may personally think that the bible is the source of all knowledge, but we're Atheists, and to us, the bible is just an old book written by nuts. While I don't entirely agree with you, I also think the Bible is fiction. It's just an interesting collection of ancient legends. Many Bible stories have parallels in other cultures(such as Noah's Flood, which may have originated from the Babylonian story of Unapishtim).

youknow what, it basically comes down to you believing whtever you believe. Im not trying to force anything down your throat, im just stating my opinion, which i havethe right to do. Im also not trying to make enemies here, im just debating. I believe the Bible, because i asked jesus into my heart, and he changed me. The things in the bible make sense if your not looking at them trying to find contradictions or problems. SAy whatever you want, but lets not make this into a shouting match or anything, ok? Thanks

Okay, Miracle. I was also stating my opinions, and I respect yours even though they're a good deal different from mine. I ask you to respect my rather unconventional beliefs. Although I enjoy debating(especially on the evolution/creation issue), I don't like it when civil debates get uncivil. So let's try not to let that happen here.

Jerome was a very unpleasant member who used arguements quite similar to yours, although more unpleasantly. He got banned, partially for losing his head in debates similar to this one. I fought with him a couple times, but we got over it. Since he left not too long after I came here, I didn't see much of him. Perhaps an older member can tell you more.

ok, ok. it just bothers me that people have an issue when i state my beliefs, yet they get uptight when i have a problem with theirs! like some one saying, "did j.c change you to become more annoying" wow, all i can say to that is that its puerile! Cant we have a debate without stooping to insulting other people because we dont like their beliefs? i hope so. If people come across as seriouslt interested, like you, then the debate is good, because the purpose is to debate and not to insult people we dont agree with. If thats all were doing, there is no purpose.

My opinion is that the human is very significant in the universe. The reason why I think humans are significant is that we are conscious, out of so many things in the universe that aren't, like rocks or gases. The king of a particular kingdom doesn't have to be a giant to be considered important. All that matters is that he has a conscience and is a very good ruler. It doesn't matter if he's a giant or if he's a midget. So because we are midgets in the whole scheme of the universe doesn't make us less significant than that insignificant void that fills up the universe. Conscious beings rule the universe, not the other way around. Based on my conscience, and not the inexistant conscience of the dust, gases, black holes, and void that fill up the universe, I can admit that humans are significant in the universe.
So I agree with Evil Counselor or whoever said that humans are significant because of their intelligence. Although air and food are important, I think the mind is even more important than science, in terms of nature and the universe, I mean. Science is important because it allows for better technology, since technology is important in many cases, and it is also somewhat interesting, but the mind is more important, I think.
I spend more time in the Miscellaneous Section and sometimes the Games Section and Literature Section since I think a real life is more important than this philosophical talk, but I think talking like this is kind of fun as well sometimes. ;D

I enjoy the philosophical discussions we have in here, and (usually) the political debates.
In a science magazine someplace, I read that approximately 99% of the universe is dark matter(a strange type of matter that doesn't interact with "normal" matter) and dark energy(a little-known force that keeps the universe expanding). Hence, the type of matter we call normal is very rare, and therefore we're unique and special in another way. I agree with Salex that concious life is extremely rare in the cosmos.
