I think gothics are a smidgeon backwards, I mean I know some people become gothic becuase of an obsessive need to visually show their depression and get attention (no offense I'm just being as blunt as I can), but I think most goths do it because they want to be individual, but everyone has seen goths and knows about them. If you ask me their just conforming to be individual, which is an oxymoron. If you really want to stand out with your lifestyle dress as tackily as possible. You might protest "but that's embarassing," but I would be more embarassed to go out al in black pierced and covered in chains. I rather be laughed at than run from. However for all you goths reading this I'm sure you're an exception. ish.

I have my own style and am made fun of for it, but I am punk 80's/goth but i don't dress in all black all the time...so people talk about me behind my back and don't think i know they are. i make myself believe that they're doing it to make themselves feel better and that they have no life so they think of things to say about others to put them down...but i've been dealing with this kind of thing since the 5th grade and have been depressed since the 6th. it's a thing i constintly have to deal with and i take my life one step, one day, one hour at a time. i guess i fooled myself into believing that when i got into high school things would get better...i thought that high school kids were more mature...but they seem to be worse. no matter how i dress it doesn't stop the ridiculing...even though i dress in black they still don't see that i'm depressed or they just don't care. i have friends, that even though they are depressed, they were bright clothes and you'd think they were the normalist people on earth...God they're such good actors....makes you think, huh? if someone can seem so happy on the outside how could they possibly be depressed? well, it makes you want to really get to know your friends.

I think most goths do it because they want to be individual, but everyone has seen goths and knows about them. If you ask me their just conforming to be individual, which is an oxymoron. I'd just like to say, there is a difference between doing it to be an individual, and doing it to be yourself. Yes, some do it because "no one else is" when everyone else is. However, there are some, like me, who simply like the style. I'd wear it if it were a huge craze, and I'd wear it if everyone made fun of me for it. Either way, it's my style. It doesn't make me an individual, but it makes me "me."
