Okay... Everyone says how great The Lord of the Rings are... So one day I picked the book up, my sister owns it, and started reading... By the time I got to page 2, I wanted to kill myself... It was so boring... The print is practically so small that I almost needed a magnifying glass... I mean... 1 page in that book is about equal to 12 in A Series of Unfortunate Events... Did I mention how boring it was... I mean of course the first pages of all books are boring... But as I said, these were no ordinary pages... It took me nearly 5 minutes per page... I just thought I let that all out... Does anyone agree with me?

Well, my dad said he could never get past Bilbo's birthday party, so he would probably agree with you. Anyways, most adult books have that size print (or close to it). ASOUE has bigger print because it's a children's book. You may want to try 'The Hobbit.' It's more lighthearted than LOTR, so you may like that better (my dad, who thought LOTR was boring, really enjoyed it).

it's true that the font size is really small and the books are very big, but comparing them to asoue is silly cause asoue was made for children, it doesn't have as much info as lotr and they're just two completely different things. lotr is an adults book, it's written like an adult's book and if you can't read it.... than watch the movies.

Ya, it took me a few chapters to really get into it. Then I had to get past stupid Tom Bombadil. After that, Id have to say its, in my opinion, the best book ever written. Or books, I guess.

I agree. Lord of the Rings is boring. I almost feel asleep in the film.

I was bored in the beginning of FOTR and The HObbit. As soon as I read about a wizard and an invisible ring I stuck with it. Seeing a bunch of people in my school all talking about the movies and the books didn't hurt either, and now I know more about LOTR than anyone I know. (not necessarily more than anyone on this list.) But I did get bored when I tried to read A book of Lost Tales today.

Jerome: This is a board for people who like LOTR. Moving on...Up to Tom Bombadil's, it is quite boring. After Rivendell, the books become quite engrossing. Try it one day. After you get past Tom's it's easier to understand, as much of the background info, and stress about the wraiths are gone.

I think it's just for people to say their opinions on LOTR, not just for people who like it. This does not mean that it's for putting down people with different opinions on it (I've noticed there's been no "you're all stupid for liking LOTR" AND no "you're stupid for thinking it's boring," for which I am very grateful).

Yes, the old style kinda made them boring for some time but I knew they were going to get good if people in my school were actually reading something so I continued and then rushed out the get the final 2 books.

i tried to read the fotr before the 2nd movie came out, and i only got to the part were erowen made the water fall on the ringwraiths. then i stoped reading it. The movies were so much better than the books. I love to read, but not that book. maybe i'll pick it up again sometime after i finish reading the bible ( im in exodus right now).

LOTR is really interesting, but yes, i do agree that it is a little slow-paced at the beginning, but imagine one man dreamed up a different world, new languages, and creatures. I think that the reason in took you so long to read it is because you are a person who likes to get ever detail in, but i skip a couple of pages, now it takes me a day or two to read the whole think, and i am also memorizing elvish. the most boring book is the Silmarillion and i think that it is the absolute most boring book ever, but i also saw that after i tried that, the first two pages of lotr was gone in 10 seconds. And ASOUE is for little kids and Lotr is an Adult book, and if it takes a magnifying glass to read the words try checking your eyesight, i have 2020 vision and i can read it just fine. ;D

Ick. I perservered with Lord of the Rings, and still hated it. The writing style is denser than tar and I found it utterly unenjoyable to read.
