my local arthouse was one of the few places in the country showin' it on 35mm... and i still couldn't be bothered to go.... i was extremely put off by the 70s setting aka guaranteed nostalgiafest. but it seems you got something out of it ?

the nostalgia thing is mostly just in the soundtrack. of course, costume and set design are very much immersed in the 70s setting, too. i think it's actually pretty close to "Boogie nights" in terms of its atmosphere, minus the latter's dark underbelly. the story is surprisingly wholesome compared to PTA's last four movies, and is - perhaps as a result - a bit less formally adventurous. it has moments i can easily imagine you scoffing at. what i liked most about it was the acting, some of the set pieces (whole Bradley Cooper episode; ending of of Benny Safdie storyline; less so Sean Penn/motorcycle scene), and the way it captures a universal, but generally culturally undefined experience of a romantically charged but unconsummated long-term relationship between two young people. it's very nuanced in that regard while also entertaining.

We're All Going to the World's Fair
For a movie that I'm not sure I liked, I think about it a lot. lol
Alex G's soundtrack is hands down the best part.

everything everywhere all at once was lots of fun. great re-watchability. maybe 10min too long (f.ex. they could've cut the scene at the stairs with the random love-help at the end); a few parts felt a bit too sketch-comedy-ey (e.g. the dog on the leash); and the first half was stronger than the second. but it's admirable in plenty of aspects... not least of all the action choreography; novel and good casting - especially the lead actress; the breakneck pace (subtletly suffers for it somewhat, alas); and i loved the bonkers humor. it felt a bit like what if edgar wright and spike jonze co-directed their version of matrix (not really a bad thing to aim for), but it still manages to be its own thing, which I'm glad it's being praised for. (more original funrides, please, not franchises.)
now i wanna check out that daniel radcliffe as a corpse film the directors did before that.
