Doc chuckled along with everyone else. He did somewhat have his misgivings about Sunny and Beatrice listening to The Lemon Song, as he didn't exactly want for the girls for be caught singing "squeeze my lemon until the juice runs down my leg" out on the school playground. The elder Baudelaires and the Quagmires did seem to be as alarmed, though.
"Well, it sounds as if that's stayed the same, at least," Doc replied, smiling. He was tempted to ask about John Bonham's death in 1980, but decided that it was best not to just refrain from mentioning death. "Well, what other groups and musicians do you like? Are you aware of a group called, uh, Very Fine Dudes? That's a heavy metal band."
OOC: Okay, you take care. Come to think of it, what about Duncan and Quigley Quagmire? Are they identical? Of course, you already know how I imagine them.

The eyes of both Bertrand and Geraldine lit up at that. “I’ll say!” she said, beaming. “We all went to their New Year’s Eve concert. Since I’m not a big fan of heavy metal music, I didn’t actually want to go at first. But then Esmé talked me into it. We had to sneak off campus to catch the bus, but we made it back long before anyone noticed we were missing.” “Lemony was so jumpy during the entire concert,” Bertrand went on. “I don’t think he paid much attention to the music. He kept thinking he was going to lose his internship and disappoint his family for letting us go.” “But hey,” Geraldine said. “Everyone has to do something daring while they’re still in high school, y’know?” [Thanks. Yup, Duncan and Quigley in my ‘verse are identical. They’re both very tall and slender, with pale complexions, black hair and sapphire-blue eyes. Isadora looks a lot like them, except with longer hair. And you know how much I love your versions of the Quagmires. ]

"That sounds amazing," breathed Doc, stunned. "What are your favourite songs by them?"
"I love Very Fine Dudes!" Sunny replied, smiling. "Led Zeppelin is better, though."
"Led Zeppelin sings a song about Kool-Aid," Beatrice added, smiling. "I love Kool-Aid."
OOC: If your Quagmires ever met mine - perhaps, in a future RPG - that would be interesting. I think you mentioned that your Violet's hair was black, which is darker than that of Emily Browning's. What about Klaus? How much does he look like Liam Aiken?

Bertrand smiled, as he thought of the song that was a favorite of both his and Esmé’s. “I’m actually quite partial to In Her Eyes,” he told Doc. “Followed closely by Hearts on Fire.”
“The kids really seem to like Led Zeppelin, though,” Geraldine pointed out. “I’ve never met anyone their age who’s so keen on heavy metal music.”
[Yup, I did mention that my Violet’s hair is black. I picture Klaus having brown hair like in Brett Helquist’s illustrations. I’ve never been able to figure out exactly what Klaus would look as an older teenager/adult, but when I think about it I can see him looking very much like Liam Aiken.]

"Well, the kids just happen to be rockers," Doc replied, smiling. "The thing is, they really don't like listening to children's music. Anyway, those are both great songs that you've mentioned. I'm also quite partial to The Train of Life. Well, on a lighter side, what about Huey Lewis and The News?" OOC: Guess we're establishing a fictional rock band together.

Bertrand laughed. “I don’t blame them,” he said. “Some of that kid’s music is… I don’t know… Juvenile, I guess would be the right word.” “Well, of course,” Geraldine replied, rolling her eyes. “Geraldine and I have a friend who’s a big fan of Huey Lewis and the News,” Bertrand went on. “His name is Jerome Squalor, the boy we mentioned earlier.” [Yes, we are, aren’t we? ]

"That sounds, uh, amazing," Doc replied, cheerfully. "The Jerome Squalor we know also loves that band, even though he's 47 years old." With a sudden chuckle, he added, "Well, look at me! I'm 65 years old, and I love rock and roll. I mean, some people think it's quite odd for an old fogey like me to enjoy rock and roll."

Both Bertrand and Geraldine giggled.
“I must admit,” Bertrand said, “that it’s quite refreshing to meet someone your age, who can appreciate the pop culture of this generation.”
“I’ll say,” agreed Geraldine. “A lot of the kids at school say if someone tells you that your music is too loud, then it means that person is too old.”

"Of course, I like all kinds of music," Doc replied, smiling. "Of course, if you were to try to introduce heavy metal to me 1955 self, I might be a little put off. Anyway, the children have been quite enthralled with my record collection."

“I’ll bet it’s very impressive,” Bertrand replied. “I’m an avid collector myself— especially the David Bowie albums. I’ve got everything from Space Oddity to Tonight. What albums do you have?”

"Oh, I have some Chuck Berry records in my collection," explained Doc, "and a good amount of jazz. Come to think of it, I also own some David Bowie. I also have Led Zeppelin, as well as The Beatles. My collection ranges with music from the 1930s - when I was a teenager, believe it or not - to the present."

Bertrand had to admit that last part did come as a surprise. However, it certainly didn’t blur what was quickly proving to be his positive impression of the scientist. Had Bertrand and Geraldine not been planning to head back to the park to meet their friends, he would have asked Doc to take them back to his place and show them his record collection. “My girlfriend is a huge fan of the Beatles,” Bertrand said. “I even bought her a few albums for her birthday next month. She doesn’t have a record player, and so she’ll be getting the cassette versions instead.” [It’s getting pretty late for me, so I’m gonna head off to bed now. ]

"So is Duncan Quagmire," Doc replied, smiling. "One of the Quagmire triplets. Well, what about video games? Do you like to play them?"
"I like Pacman," Sunny added, smiling.
OOC: It sounds like your Fernald, at least, is around the same age as mine - but probably still a little younger.

“Oh, absolutely,” Bertrand replied. “The Training School has its own game room with a couple of arcade games.” He grinned. “I’m a whiz at Super Mario Bros.”
“I like Pacman, too,” Geraldine said. “Though my boyfriend is much better at it than I am.”
[Yeah, you’re right about our two Fernalds being of a similar age. Mine would be twenty-one in 1985.]

"Super Mario Brothers is good, too," Sunny added, smiling. "Violet had just picked up a Nintendo system, a couple weeks ago. She is also quite good at the game, as well as Quigley."
"Sunny's right," Doc replied, smiling. "I've watched Sunny play. I've become quite good good at Pacman, but I'll have to try my hand at Super Mario Brothers. After all, who says that older people can't also have fun!"
"I want to play Super Mario Brothers!" commented Beatrice.
"All in good time, Beatrice," Doc replied, gently. Turning to Bertrand and Geraldine, he asked, "Well, I suppose we should start heading back to the park."
OOC: Are you think of having the whole group, eventually, end up the park?
