The fan belt apparently ended up on the Island...but there are a lot of fan belts. I think it's deliberately left ambiguous whether it was the same fan belt. Will we be starting TSS soon?

The weekend sounds a good time to begin TSS. The initials of the days match, and it gives a few more days for any last TCC comments to trickle in.

Um... I don't want to seem excessively demanding or anything, but that weekend passed a while ago - will we be starting soon?

Klaus says the long robe looks like something a rabbi might wear. Is this evidence that the Baudelaires are Jewish? There was a discussion of that a while ago. Of course, K is very erudite, but the feeling I get is that he's not commenting on something very specific about the design of the robe, but just associating 'long robe' with 'rabbi', which makes most sense if he's Jewish. I believe that's from the end of TWW. Sadly, the copy's at my dad's house, so I'll have to go on memory. It was when Olaf and his fat accomplice escape, and the narrative stated (paraphrased) "he was now boarding a train in the disguise of a rabbi". Or something along those lines. It's been several years since I last read it. But I believe the robe from TWW and this robe in TCC are one and the same.

Great idea, JTB! These are exactly the sorts of connections we should be making.

Yes, excellent point. There's a rabbi coming up in TPP as well - hmm.

Staying in Room 296 (Judaism), later suggested to be a volunteer reading the Hebrew language in a mirror.

Aaah. I see. Interesting. I can't wait to do TPP; it's my favorite book behind TMM and TGG/TCC.
