I believe Snicket will release a new series that does not focus around the Baudelaire orphans, but will have all three (four, now) in it making a sort od cameo appearance. In TBB:RE in the endnotes it says that the Baudelaire's return to Briny Beach THREE times. In asoue they only return twice, when will this third time happen? In a new series.
Here is a quote I saw that confirms we'd be in the asoue setting again:
"In an interview with the 667 Dark Avenue fansite, Daniel Handler alluded to more Lemony Snicket books focused on the world of A Series of Unfortunate Events."
We have not gotten these books yet. Also, I remember reading somewhere that Lemony said that he would create more books focused on the asoue world after he is done researching and investigating a specific situation.
What do all of you think?

I think a new series with cameos from aSoUE is as close as anyone's going to get to the sequel series or spin-off some people desire. In all honesty, though, I think the note Handler closed the series on made it pretty plain that he considers the series to be as finished as it's going to get. Violet's third visit to Briny Beach isn't the only dropped plotline, but unlike the others, it's easy to predict how it would occur off-screen; as such, it's not necessary to portray.
Daniel Handler is working on a new children's book series, but we don't know anything about it yet.
