Ok this may get confusing, but here it goes. Esme' shot a crow which is breaking a rule Hector broke two rules. bauldires broke numerous rules. The elders broke one rule by not burning them on a stake So if the punishment for breaking a rule is to be burned on a stake, then should they burn themselves?

Probably. Logical flaws like this are part of the satire of TVV.

And even then we don't know all the rules. Just about every rule is in some way contridicted by another, and then those that aren't are plainly ridiculous.

From a logical standpoint, the rules all cancel themselves out, further enhancing the satire aspect of the story of TVV.

We need a V.F.D. lawyer.

Yes but then that would undermine everything these books are about...

A lawyer in the book might have actually been kind of funny; the rules would make it practically impossible to win you're case, and I think it would be interesting to see The Council of Elder's final desicion. But I suppose Detective Dupin is a sort of lawyer, in a way.

I agree, it couldn't be a sensible lawyer because that would ruin the whole point but having him arguing with the Council would have added a nice twist.

Or, a sensible lawyer that kept getting ignored.

Every rule in the V.F.D deletes another one..Rule #1 says the you shouldn't harm crows but Rule#19 says that The only pens that are acceptable within the city limits are ones made from the feathers of crows.Rule #39 sais that it's illegal to make anything out of crow feathers...

Oh, it would be great if they burnt themselves! I never liked The Elders of V.F.D.! And I never liked TVV too much. Although I like Hector.
