Daniel Handler is on the latest episode of WTF with Marc Maron. You can get it on itunes in podcasts, or a direct link here. wtfpod.libsyn.com/There's some strong language (obviously) but it's still a good listen. Skip to about 7 minutes if you don't feel like listening to Marc Maron ranting about things. I recommend the podcast in general as well to comedy fans.

Thank you for posting that link; it's quite entertaining, and I'd recommend it to anyone interested in... well, any of the past years of the Snicket fandom, as well as anyone wanting a few more details on the pirate novel.

I don't have sound - could someone tell me what the important points were?

I don't have sound - could someone tell me what the important points were? I think the only actual new information was about the pirate novel - the protagonists are teenage girls and the residents of an old people's home who, angry about society, decide to take up the spirit of piracy in the San Francisco Bay. Parrots and plank-walking are involved. He did talk about a few incidents some may remember, though - his work on the movie, and a blog he did several years ago about a tedious experience on Coney Island

Hilarious. Wonderful. Thanks for the link.
"How does [your son] compare to you?" "I'm better."

I've listened through this now, and I agree it's very entertaining. The anecdotes were pretty interesting, and the new pirate novel sounds fun--is it supposed to be humor, though? Handler says he hopes it's funny, though I can't tell if that's just an aspect or the actual genre.

Now I've heard it - teenage girls, eh? They're not Finnish, by any chance, are they?
I think any novel with that plot would have to be humorous unless it it was handled in such a way as to be incredibly bleak.
(I thought they went on rather too long about the Coney Island incident.)

Teenage girls taking up a pirate lifestyle at the San Francisco bay? Ok, I'm now even more excited about the 'pirate novel' than I was before. I hope they do publish it here in Brazil or else I'll have to order it at Amazon or whatever. Anyways, great news!
