I don't know whether this topic is really useful or not but I can't ignore this fact. I think it must be an error in TSS. I don't know if there is an error in your books but in my book there is such error or it is just a new information. At the very beginning of TSS(it must chapter 1 or chapter 2) Snicket states that when Baudelaires lived in the House of Freaks, Sunny made very delicious soup which all freaks in caravan enjoyed eating. I re-read TCC many times and I can't find that place when Sunny cooked soup or something else, except the hot chocolate. Is this an error? Maybe Handler wanted to mention this soup in TCC but then he forget about it and he remembered it when he started TSS. Or, perhaps, Handler just forgot the plot of TCC when he was writing TCC. What do you think?

The soup reference is on page 9 of my edition of TSS. As for TCC, the caravan eat soup at the beginning of Chapter Eight, but you're right that I can't find a reference to Sunny helping to prepare it. As such, it's probably just a mistake - either something that Handler forgot to put into TCC, or misremembered when writing TSS.

I remeber the soup, they where eating it the day before someone was going to be thrown to the lions. Sunny and Hugo made it, and while tey where eating it, Snicket descirbed everyones worries and thoughts.

From the beginning of Chapter Eight, the line reads: "Colette and Kevin were just finishing a game of dominoes, and Hugo had cooked up a pot of tom ka gai, which is a delicious soup commonly eaten in Thailand. But as the Baudelaires sat at the table and ate their supper, they were not in the mood to digest the mixture of chicken, vegetables, fancy mushrooms, fresh ginger, coconut milk and water chestnuts that the hunchback had prepared."

I remember the soup but I can't remember anything about Sunny preparing it.

I remember the soup but I can't remember anything about Sunny preparing it. Just because he didn't say it in TCC doesn't mean it didn't happen, it may have just been an off-screen event. It's like how just because he doesn't ever say they do, it's safe to assume that the orphans use the bathroom at some point.

Yes, but if I remember rightly the Baudelaires have been doing something outside, and then come in to find Hugo has made the soup - so it doesn't look as if Sunny can have been helping with it. I think it's a retcon - or, from another perspective, it's a new discovery Lemony made as he continued with his research.

Oh my mistake, you're right. What I remember of the books after the 4th one is quite wanting. I haven't them again for a while.
