I made this thread because I think Hal is so cute and elderly. This is for all Hal lovers out there, please comment about things you like about Hal, or, if you are a hater, disagree with me all you want, but I just like old people and I think it's great that Hal doesn't care about what the lazy people on the Daily Punctilio. Anyways please comment and I hope this is a thread that no one has thought of yet

Even though Hal does some reasonably significant things in the series, I for some reason get the sense that he's one of those characters too often overlooked. It's a shame he didn't read the information that was available to him at Heimlich Hospital, but those kinds of tendencies are fairly common among the adults in the Snicket world, I think.

I strongly believe that he survived the fire and became Lemony's informant; he may even have taken over the underwater library after Dewey's death. However, I have never managed to persuade anyone to agree with me on this.

It's a shame the Baudelaires didn't have an opportunity to properly reunite with Hal in TPP, but that was one of many missed opportunities, I suppose. Like many of the adults in the series, he's foolish and has his flaws, even if he's essentially a good person. He's also one of the few characters in the series who is actually old rather than just ambiguously middle-aged, which is interesting.
..."Cute"?

I really love Hal! He is so kind! He forgave Baudelaires and it means a lot for me! To say true, I like all ASoUE character whose names starts with "H". I mean Hector, Hal.

Yeah I think he is kinda cute, espeacilly when the Baudelaires are about to switch his keys to fake ones and he tells them how much he cares about them, it makes me feel so bad for him, I just wanted to fill him with hugs. Btw, is it ok for me to comment on my own thread if I want to say something to one person in special, like I just did? I'm new here sorry.

Ah, I see what you mean. Yes, that is a scene which fills one with pathos. Poor Hal, having lived so long only to find that he doesn't understand the world at all. That's perfectly fine! I absolutely encourage it. The only real ban is on posts that are too short (as in only one or two words), or making two consecutive posts instead of editing with the Modify button. I don't think you'll have any trouble with that.

That's good advice. It's not hard to get things right here, and most people manage it just fine. Just being polite and sensible is enough.
