Just something i noticed. Ishmael catches the children in the tree trunk and starts telling them a story. He makes a reference to a student he had who had one long eyebrow and one ear, due to a accident she had. could this be Aunt Josephine's mother in law? In TWW, she said that her mother in law not only had one eyebrow, but also only one ear.

I think that we're certainly meant to connect the two, yes, although whether they're actually the same character or it's just an ambiguous reference that proves interesting for the careful reader is a question I'm not sure can be resolved.
