Yes, not to mention very distressing, but if I had the choice I would rather be a victim than create an injustice especially for someone else.

I have a motto( I know it is not a perfect motto): "Always tell everything you think, no matter what others would like to hear from you."

Another way of putting that might be "Honesty is the best policy." That's a motto that requires a lot of personal integrity and confidence in your opinions, colette.

I've always had a few short sayings that I recall in often difficult situations, but I wouldn't consider any singular one to have much seniority as my "personal philosophy" over the other:
"A man is as is his strength." (Bible, Book of Judges) "Hear me roar." (A Song of Ice and Fire) "Do not be afraid." (simple)
There are several others that I'll post when/if I remember them, I just cannot recall them at the moment (shows how absolutely crucial they are like they were for some ASoUE characters!).

Eclectic selection, JTB! If it's any comfort as regards not being able to remember them, in our unexciting lives we may only rarely have to call on these personal philosophies.

Lately I've adopted "If in doubt say nothing." Or "Expect the unexpected" as it says in my personal text, although my life is rather dull in general so there's rarely any unexpected to expect at all.

This one has been working for me: "When in doubt: Give" (taken from the lyrics of The Pleasure Is All Mine by Björk)

If I think about it, "Momento Mori" might not be such a bad motto/philosophy, albeit maybe a bad one for a school, if you think about it in the sense that it could be similar to sayings like "make the most with what you have," or "live every moment like it could be your last."

These days I am quite partial to, "Live as if you were to die tomorrow, but learn as if you were to live forever."

Nowadays with all these assignments due in the beginning of May, I try to go by the philosophy, "Don't put off what you can do today". But because I am a natural procrastinator, mixed with my attention-span and other learning difficulties, it is sometimes hard to do this. But...Slowly getting there
