so I hope nobody will object. I object! Make them ALL about peanuts! Just kidding, everything looks great. Just wondering, how are these going to be presented? Like they are, or in the way that the "41" things were last year (as in within a template kind of thing)?

The proposed arrangement looks good to me. It was suggested that the stories could be presented as images, as they are in this tumblr. Currently, I'm trying to picture how the images would slot with the stories. Ideally, they would all be of uniform size; but would they serve as backgrounds to each individual contribution, or be placed above/below each story? Would each story be accompanied with an image at all, and from where would such images come (since we want to avoid violating copyright law)?

I'm going to make some proposals and experiments about image formatting (probably) later today. With that said, I'm not sure copyright should be a problem given that we wouldn't be making money off the images or stopping anyone else from doing so. I was just thinking that one major source could be grabbing them from Google Image Search or using one of the various repositories of ASoUE's own chapter images. You have to bear in mind that this is essentially a private project.

Brunch, I added an "actually" to one part of your story as it only came to forty-one words. . Oops, sorry. Did you count flat-footed as one or two words?

Did you count flat-footed as one or two words? Ah, that's probably it. MS Word counts hyphenated words as one word, presumably on the grounds that for a lot of hyphenated words you could eliminate the hyphen and just conjoin them, e.g. "flatfooted." In fact, it looks as if the phrase might officially lack the hyphen. Of course, since it's a reference to TBL, let me go and look up that book's position on the punctuation of this term. ...Well, TBL hyphenates it, and therefore so probably should we, which still leaves us with the question of how to count it. If you don't mind, Brunch, I'm inclined to count "flat-footed" as one word, for the simple reason that there are a couple of other stories in which hyphenated word pairs are also counted as one word, and that kind of indicates a sort of quiet consensus on the matter. I agree. I think we should just get some images from Google and perhaps artwork of some 667ers that volunteer to draw something. Not necessarily Google exclusively, of course - that was just an example. I dare say a few people might have some images or drawings of their own which they think might suit, or can come up with something original. All that's really important is that a story's original author consents to the picture being used, or is happy to leave it to someone else's judgement. We aren't all ace image-editors. Certainly I'm not. I was hoping that the good denizens of Aggravating Art could help us out. I've been busy today, so I think I'll leave further rumination on this subject until tomorrow, when I'll maybe post up a couple of examples. This is something we should agree on before we move forward. Fortunately we have sacks of time, so we really can afford to go slowly and discuss.

Well, lately I've been drawing quite a lot, and my skills have been improving. I'll try to draw something.

I counted the hyphenated word in my story as a single element as well, so they're consistent in that respect.
On the copyright issue: While many images on Google are in fact copyrighted, the private nature of this project is a good point. I'm curious about these examples, however, and how they will fit together.

Surely there's creative commons databases of images about.

Okay, these are the sort of thing I was envisioning. Pay no attention to the actual nature of the drawing; these are just some ideas I had for how to suit my stories which just happened to involve MS Paint rather than anything at all sophisticated. In practice you could write your story out on nearly any kind of image. I just want to see if people agree on this kind of set-up - first initial highlighted, the story laid out on an image like this, the author's name in the corner, if somebody different does the image they could put their name on it too. Also, I think we should have a consistent image size, and this 400 x 200 format seems perfect for reasons which are hopefully obvious.

These seem great, I'll try making a couple of these on GIMP.
