I recently learned a couple of interesting linguistic facts about walruses: the word "walrus" may be derived from a Scandinavian word meaning "whale-horse," and in the past they have been called "sea-horses" (as evident in this Google Books search). This is possibly significant because Lady Mallahan was said to have passed off a dead walrus as the Beast, which itself is variously compared to a seahorse or a shark-horse hybrid.

I'm sorry. but if poisoned wine and falling into the ocean counts, then:
I just topped up our sugar bowl earlier today, and my stepmum said "Where is the sugar bowl", because I moved it. Trivial. Very. Y'see. How irritating and dull was that... wait, I have another:
I went to the beach today, and it was low tide, so it was like the sand had been drained of water, like Stain'd. I'm sorry. I'm in a terrible mood.

INTERVIEWER: Was there anything that you were particularly afraid of as a child? The dark, spiders, and so forth.
W.H. AUDEN: No, I wasn’t very scared. Spiders, certainly—but that’s different, a personal phobia which persists through life. Spiders and octopi. I was certainly never afraid of the dark.
( source) This may be more of a 'The Dark' coincidence, but Auden mentions octopi in the same breath, and he himself (or rather one of his poems) is referenced somewhere in ASoUE (I don't remember where, but I clearly remember he was). So this should be actually in the Odd General Snicket Real-Life Coincidence Thread, but there is none, so yeah. (EDIT: Sorry this is so crappy.)

A teacher told us today that no question was a wrong question. Five minutes later she declined to answer a question because it was silly.
