I really like the blue and grey ones, Kensicle. The color and font change really do it for me.

Thanks. The watermark would definitely need some adjusting to not go sliding off either side of the cover and make it look lop-sided, but in principle I think that one looks much better. How about this? All very nice. I like the grey and the watermark ones the best. I also see that you've changed the font of 'Lemony Snicket', which is good, but a more eccentric font might be better. Like Blackadder or one of the other 'older' ones. There's actually a font called Eccentric on my computer. I reckon it's quite appropriate, too.

Eccentric looks fantastic, actually - very fitting for this series. As for that new watermark version, I actually think it may be a lost hope, because the original picture of the statue simply is lopsided, or rather, it extends off at the top-right and bottom left. Maybe a different picture - the stalking giant, perhaps?

I agree. Eccentric is very good. As the picture in the middle obscures most of the watermark, it would be better to pick one which has more of a 'scene' to it- like the library 814.7 one, for example.

My first impression upon seeing this cover was that it was cleaner - more organized and with a point of focus, that is - than the American version. My second impression was why oh why did they use the illustration snippet with the line? I know people have pointed out it probably is part of a larger image we can't see, and I've no doubts this is true, but nonetheless I'd like to see some indication of that bigger picture if it's going to be pasted on the cover. Also, I rather like the color scheme. The solid sea green is fitting for the setting of this story, I think, and the octopi spine, as mentioned, is a wonderful development.
The variations people have been posting are nice as well. I'm not sure about the watermark, as the main circle limits the plane of visibility, but I wouldn't be opposed to an image with an element of repeating patterns rendered as a background aspect.
