This is all over Google News, so I figure a lot of you will probably notice it soon. Slate.com probably tells the story best. www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat/2012/08/16/lauren_conrad_destroys_books_lemony_snicket_responds_.htmlShort story, some Z-lister posted a "craft video" demonstrating how to cut the covers off Snicket books to create a box or something. Much furore arose out of disgust at the destruction of the books, and Snicket himself was eventually pressed for a comment, and came up with the following: "It has always been my belief that people who spend too much time with my work end up as lost souls, drained of reason, who lead lives of raving emptiness and occasional lunatic violence. What a relief it is to see this documented."

thedoctororwell posted the video a while ago, actually, and we were discussing it here. I've seen this "craft" before on other sites, but at least they had the decency to use books that were basically unreadable.

Oh, I didn't realize it was her. The video was taken down before I saw it and I thought it was some random unknown person. I mean it basically still is. But it's wierd that she chose ASOUE.

Obviously, this is a deeply disturbed woman who deserves our sympathy. Only a misguided sadist or a complete jerk would take such excellent books, rip them apart, and use them as decorations. If she had simply used the infallible websource known as Wikipedia, Ms. Conrad would have known that books are actually meant to be read, not disemboweled.
Seriously though, modern interior design can be pretty silly sometimes.

This is absolutely silly! It can be useful to create things you can use out of things you can't use. But this woman has books that can be read and a box you can put things in and she creates a box that looks a little different than before and no books anymore...
And she doesn't even put the books in the right order!

And she doesn't even put the books in the right order! I know! That absolutley infuriated me. Anyway, I'm going to make my box out of mutiple copies of this:

"It has always been my belief that people who spend too much time with my work end up as lost souls, drained of reason, who lead lives of raving emptiness and occasional lunatic violence.
