This chapter is confusing, but in a good way. I like how you tell the characters' own sotries first before you let us know how they are related to the Baudelaires' story. And it's great to see Mister M enter the story! Also this: Klaus found himself sTrugedyg. I didn't know what it means before I read this paragraph again after reading the whole chapter.

Change of plan. As chronologically TMWTTKD Chaper One takes palce before The Next AnotherSOUE Chapter, I will release that first. Plus I seem to write TMWTTKD A LOT quicker. It takes about a week to write a chapter of AnotherSOUE about 30 minutes writign a day (4 days writing, 2 more polishing it off - Yes I am rather slow), but i just wrote the latest TMWTTKD In about an hour. So, AnotherSOUE chapter 5 AFTER The Daily Punctilio

Wow. I Actually am doing something on time, and without changing plans again
Chapter Five
The Baudelaire knew they should be thankful, but they weren’t
They were having a bench trial, which meant no jury, just a judge. Only one person they had to convince they were innocent, up against all the mountains of evidence proving they were not.
On Tuesday morning, Violet woke up, but she could not find the energy to pull herself out of bed. Klaus could not keep his mind focused enough to be able to dress himself. Sunny could barely find the energy to cook breakfast, so Justice Strauss had to do it for het.
But eventually the Baudelaires, Beatrice, and Justice Strauss were making there way out of the house and towards their trial. Because today was the day they had been dreading.
Justice Strauss, however, was trying her best to be positively beaming, as the Baudelaires walked deeper into te city she gave occasional comments such as ’I’m sure it will be fine’ ‘;there no need to worry’, and ‘It s ridiculous you were ever even accused of these things’
They stopped to get a snack at around 10;00, and all five of them lent against a large statue of a man battling a shark, which seems rather unlikely to be taking place in the middle of a city, near a café
The Baudelaires saw many things on while they sat there, but they saw two particular things that would change their lives forever.
Then first was a man with black hair and blue eyes, dressed in a large beige overcoat, and dark brown trousers walking out of the café and rushing horridly past the Baudelaires, accidentally bumping into justice Strauss.
The second was another man the Baudelaires had seen only a few days ago. It was the man the Baudelaires had seen at the bank, Joseph. He was wearing a large hat, as if to keep his appearance blurry, and he was walking towards the Baudelaires. Before they could say anything to him, the Baudelaires were quickly ushered in the opposite direction by justice Strauss.
‘Where are we going?’ Violet asked
‘Nowhere.’ Justice said. ‘We just need to get moving.’
‘But we’re going the wrong way?’ Klaus said
‘That doesn’t matter, we need to get away from that - ’ But justice Strauss was cut short due to the fact she was nearly run over by a car. She managed to jump out of the way in time, dropping the piece of paper the first man had dropped in her pocket, and she fell to the floor.
‘Its okay, you were in a rush, I cant blame you.’
Overall, James had been nice about the sanitation, and, as Klaus had said, he was a nice person.. He had given them all a cup of tea, and a biscuit, and was now giving them a lift in his car so they wouldn’t be late. ‘I really do feel for you.’
‘We appreciate your help very much.’ said Justice Strauss. She was looking out the window, at all the other cars passing by, her mind not really with the present situation.
‘Ah, its nothing.’
The Baudelaires sat in awkward silence for the rest of journey, before pulling to a stop outside the courthouse.
The four children, and the one adult stepped out of the car. Violet turned to James ‘Here, let me give you some money.’
‘Money? No, no! There’s no need.’
‘Tiker!’ Shrieked Beatrice, a word which might have meant ‘Thank you’, or possibly ‘I’m to worried about our upcoming trial to thank you.’, but I am unsure.
‘Right.’ Said James. ‘Goodbye then.’ And he was gone.
The Baudelaires stood, and watched as his car disappeared over the horizon.
And then, the most unexpected thing happened.
A Man appeared, as if from nowhere, on a Tuesday Afternoon, in the middle of the street. He had black hair, dark green eyes, and a face like he was in trouble. And, he was running towards the Baudelaires.
The man was wearing clothes that looked incredibly old, but in his hands were two strange devices that seemed incredibly complicated, almost so complicated violet would have a hard time making them. They seemed to be attached to his hands like gloves, with long wires spreading up his arms, and then over his back.
The man stopped running when he reached the Baudelaires and leaned against the side of the building, catching his breath. ‘Is *gasp* is… *gasp* this *gasp* tues *gasp* Tuesday?’
Violet looked at Justice Strauss before saying yes.
‘Good’ The man walked over the large marble entrance, and then to the side of the road ‘Then there might still be time.’
Justice Strauss walked up to the man ‘Excuse me, but whoa re you?’
‘That doesn’t matter. Not yet. Not until after the meeting on Friday evening anyway. What does matter is that you listen to everything I tell you Baudelaires.’
‘Are we supposed to no you/’ Klaus asked.
‘No.’ And he ran up the steps and into the entrance of the high court.
The Baudelaires did not know whether to follow or scream for help, but before they could make a decision, he ran back out again, without the strange objects on his hands.
‘Right.’ he said. ‘Violet, I need you to come with me.’
‘Excuse me?’ she asked.
‘We need to find Mr Poe. He is the only variable remaining.;
‘the only what?’
‘Variable. The only thing that can change/’
‘Change what?’ Klaus asked.
The man turned to look at him, with a look of fear in his eyes. It took him a few moments before he could reply.
‘The future.’
‘Oh…kay. Are you sure you don’t need to sit down?’ Klaus said.
‘Ah, Klaus, if only you knew. But you need to trust me or bad things will happen, and I should know. I made them happen. But this is our chance to change things, and I can only do that if I find Mr Poe.’
‘Okay, this is ridiculous.’
‘Klaus wait.’ Violet said.
‘Wait why?
‘Because I want to hear what he ahs to say.’
The man smiled ‘Thank you violet. Yes. Time is not a straight line, its more of a intricate system fo gears and cogs, each person being a different wheel, spinning round and round, and sending other people spinning around us. And I need to change time by adding in a new cog, and the whole thing wills start spinning differently than before. But its difficult. You cannot change time. Whatever Happened, happened. But there are---- certain people who can change things. These people are greatly unknown, and they are ever diminishing, but these people - the variables - can change everything. And at this moment of time Mr Poe is the person I need.’
‘But why do I need to come?’
‘Because.. Because you do.’
‘Klaus, take sunny for me’
‘Why?’ Klaus asked taking sunnys hand.
‘Because I’m going with him.’
Justice Strauss and Klaus both looked equally shocked. ‘What?’ She said ‘You cant be serious’ he said.
‘No, I think I should go with him.’
‘What about the trial?’ Justice said.
‘We wont be long.’ The man said ‘And don’t worry. You’ll be fine.’
‘How can you trust that man violet.’ Klaus said ‘We don’t even know my name’
‘Call me Edward.’
‘Oh.’ Said Klaus.
‘Its not my real name, but if it makes you feel better. Come on violet we’ve got to go.’
‘I’ll be fine.’ Violet said, and then she followed man who was not called Edward down the street.
‘So where are we going?’ She asked him
‘To the police station.’
‘Why?’
‘Because that’s where Mr Poe is.’

And suddenly things get timey. Okay. That was kind of abrupt, but time-travel often is. I don't have much time to comment, but I'm looking forward to seeing how this direction affects the Snicket universe in your hands.

Why do I have a strange feeling that this is not going to go well? But I like the time thing.

Time Travel as a concept is a very difficuly story-telling technique to deal with, and thats the main reason this chapter took so long to produce. Many Time Travel stories annoy me when things that 'future' characters say later contradicts what happens, so i spent a long time plotting out the not-edwards story, and his future interactions with our main cast, so that this story will work if re-read when the series finishes. Also, I just thought i should say, although I started out with the aim of doing 13 chapters per book (6 books), it will probably end up being 10 chapters (for this book anyway), so we are halfway! The main reason being i basically took out a whole subplot about what happened to the islanders, but in the grand scheme of things it didn't really go anywhere. Also, as another clue, the man in the biege coat is Dante. Yeah, Dante, you have black hair and blue eyes in my mind. Edit ; Plus, This will (hopefully) be weekly from now on, with TMWTTKD weekly from sunday.

I admire your dedication to the integrity of your time-travel plot. There are ways of getting around future statements eventually being contradicted, of course, but I feel that that defeats the point of introducing the time travel in the first place.
As for your description of me, you're half-right, at least. Interesting that I'm fully involved in this story as well.

A fleeting apperance in one chapter doesn't mean you're fully invovled. Wait until book 6.
