Chapter Six
Many things were happening on that Tuesday Afternoon. In the city, a young woman and a middle aged man were running towards a police station, in the hope they would find a distressed banker. In another part of the city, A young man, a young girl, a baby, and a grown woman were preparing to stand trial by a judge who was not all she seemed, whilst in a room not to far away from them, a despicable young girl and a grey haired man looked over pages of information, before realising they were looking at the wrong set of six numbers. In a street a car chase broke out with a man who worked at a police station, a man who worked at a bank, and a man who did nothing but write down everything he knew. Inside a bank, one man with blonde hair and blue eyes had a stand off with a man who has black hair and blue eyes, who wasn’t his brother. And In the ruins of a long destroyed building a man who might be his brother, but I am unsure, opened a secret passageway, only to find Jerome had blocked it many months ago. And inside an old house abandoned since that dreadful wedding, a man called Thomas desperately searched for one last apple, only to find the script of that dreadful play. And in another city similar to this one, a man with a beard but no hair was attacked by a man with hooks but no hands, and his sister, and in a different city to that one, three triplets were reunited at last, only to separated again forever. And in a faded town, only a train ride away, I sat at my desk and waited for my associate from the bank to return with the associate from the prison so I could finally get some sleep.
But one other thing happened inside a courthouse. A man who I have only met once took a pair of strange, glove like devices into a room, laid them on a table, and left the room.
He then walked out of the building, and stood waiting.
This man's name was David Faraday, and he was very confused.
Violet Baudelaire was also confused, as the man not called
Edward stopped outside the jail.
‘Are you okay?’ Edward asked
‘Im quite… out of … breth.’
‘You’ll get used to it.’ Edward pulled of his coat, and handed it to violet
‘What am I supposed to do with this?’
‘I don’t know. But you have it later.’
‘What?’
‘Like I said. Im from the future. And in the future, you have that coat. And we need that coat. So…. Keep the coat.
‘Right. Go and wait round the back.’ he said
‘Why?’
‘Because I need you to do something. There is A Verdant Flammable Device around the back, and I need you to light it.’
‘Why?’
‘That’s the wrong question.’
Volet thought, before replying ‘Who are we signalling?’
‘An old friend.’ Edward handed Violet a lighter. ‘Wait until I come to meet to you. I wll be about 25 minutes. Do not be seen. Oh, and keep walking right, that way’ He pointed to the left, before disappearing into the building.
Violet found the VFD resting on the top of a bin. She put it on the ground, and lit it. Green smoke began to bellow up into the sky.
Edward walked into the lobby, only to encounter a man he has not seen for a few weeks.
‘Ops sorry. Nearly walked into you there!’ Said the man.
‘James. James Ford!’
‘Hello. Do I know you?’
‘No. No, not yet. But I know you. Tell you what. While I’m here, I would just like to tell you that I’m sorry.’
‘It okay. I walked into you!’ He smiled, and clasped his hand of Edwards shoulder
‘No, not that. James, doesn’t it worry that you don’t remember things. People, names, places, all forgotten. But nothing is ever truly forgotten. Faces in photographs, empty rooms and half eaten meals. If you try, hard enough, you can remember.’
James looked scared, but curious ‘Remember what?’
‘Nothing. No time for that now. I need to speak to officer Ma-’
‘Sorry. We’re a bit busy today, actually. There was a nasty murder a few days ago, and-’
‘But that’s why I’m here. I have information/’
‘Really? Wh-’
‘JAMES!’
The Mans body was as large as his shout. He had thick arms, a thick head, Thick legs, and thick body, and a thick voice. It is likely that you have been shouted at many times in your life, so I am sure you know that no matter how many times you have been shouted at, it only gets worse with experience. James jumped, as Daniel threw his words across the room.
‘Er.. Yes Daniel. Sir.’
‘Who is this ma-’
Daniel stopped in his tack. ‘You.’
‘Daniel.’ Edward put out his hand. ‘How are you? The Dairy
says they have missed your work as of late.’
‘M. You know as well as me I never truly worked for them.’
‘Why did you take that information from the hatch? Do you work for VFD know?’
‘Oh, M, if only you knew what She was planning.’
‘Hah. Thing is Daniel, I do know. I know where Esme is and what she is planning. I know what VFD is planning to do, and know you will not succeed. And I know that you will die alone, and afraid.’
‘Are you trying to scare me M. Surely that’s how we all die.’
James spoke up ‘Er, am I interrupting something here?’
‘No James.’ said Edward ‘We’re fine.’
‘I thought you had information about the murder?’
‘Yes, James I do.’
‘You do?’ said Daniel
‘Yes. It was me. I killed the woman with hair but no beard, on that rooftop, just a few nights ago.’ Mister M smirked.
‘Go on. Arrest Me.’
And now, Faithful reader, its time for a bit of ‘commentary’
