In the book she appeared in. I wonder if she had lived if she would continue to chase the Baudelaire's along with Olaf. Would have been interesting to hear more of her back story. Considering she was a good villain with a great contribution to Olaf. The Carnival freaks just complained most of the Time. Esme always talked about in things. Orwell actually hypnotized people!

Two things:
1. Dr Orwell was Olaf- or I think it was. I have not read the books in quite some time so I apologize if I got it wrong. 2. The Carnival Freaks aren't really villians. Yes, they joined the villain's side but they aren't entirely evil. And they did not complain, they were discouraged by their "freakish"-ness.
I can't argue with your point about Esme, though.

I think you're going to need to reread TMM for this one, Teleram - Dr. Orwell was absolutely a separate person, who was later further separated by a buzzsaw. Also, indyrams, I find this subject line kind of misleading... no other villain died in the book they were introduced in, true, but plenty of them did die. It is interesting to ask if Dr. Orwell might have joined Olaf's troupe had she lived, but I suspect she would have parted ways with him and then popped up to cause trouble much later, rather like the sinister duo. I agree that some backstory would be nice - it's implied in the U.A. that she had some kind of antagonism with Sally Sebald.

I knew something was wrong in my post. I must've gotten the fact that Olaf disguised herelf as a receptionist for Orwell mixed up with Orwell herself.

I think that Dr. Orwell was the only efficient villain that died. Her death was needed to the Baudelaires to escape from Olaf. The others villains of the series, except maybe the sinister duo, were not really good in their plans. Olaf is an example, his plans never work very well. .-.

True, Dr. Orwell is very capable. I can imagine hypnotism becoming a major plot device in the series if she had survived, and V.F.D. might have a particular link to the practice. It could be a very interesting alternative universe.

i think TMM and TAA are two differt way the series could have been. If snicket had continued the mystical side of the seires with book 5, the series would be very different by it end.

What do you mean by mystical?

Well, i meant more that the hypnotism element could bring in a more supernatural side to the series.

So I might as well leave the thread now. Bye, all.

Orwell isn't the only villain to die. Olaf dies.

Orwell isn't the only villain to die. Olaf dies. So does the bald man. The person who looked like neither a man nor a woman might have died and a few villains probably perished in Hotel Denouement when it burned down.

"In the book she appeared in," i.e. was introduced in. Olaf, the bald man, and the androgynous person were introduced in TBB and didn't die for quite some time afterwards.
