So suppose beatrice had an affair at one point (bertrand eventually forgave her) and had klaus with another man.
You might think i been watching too many films but i really think it would have been a good last book revelation. Truly haunting. You already know how the dialogue between klaus and olaf would have gone

To be honest, it sounds like a twist for the sake of having a twist. People have had similar ideas in the past about Violet possibly being Lemony's daughter, but if there's one theme that's solid as a rock in ASoUE, it's family, and particularly the inseparable bond of the Baudelaires. Undermining that seems out of character.

I'd add that it might not seem like a good plotline based on the target audience (9-12, at least here in the UK). At 9 (or potentially younger), I wouldn't have understood it. At 10/11, maybe I might have understood how babies were conceived but affairs and stuff could have just gone way over my head. Yes, ASOUE is fascinating in the way it can grab the attention of those far older than 12 - all the literary references and subtleties and stuff - but you still need all your readers to understand the basic plot. I'm not trying to be condescending here: originally reading the [first] books aged 7/8, I would not have understood Beatrice having an affair.
But as for fanfiction...

Lemony as father would work a lot better from that point of view, given he was engaged to Beatrice. (Apparently there's now a programme on TV in which kids organise their parents' weddings, so presumably 9-12 year-olds won't have any difficulty grasping that.)
I find the Lemony-as-father theory improbable, but it can just about be made to work. An enormous amount would have to happen in nine months, but given how much happens in two weeks in the second half of ASOUE...

The point is that if they are organising their parents' wedding, they clearly know it's possible to have children when not actually married.

I personally messaged Dante about my theory on this. I was able to find some evidence that suggests that Lemony is really Violet's biological father! If you want to know the details and page references, I'll post them here.

Yes, I'd be interested to see that.

I think you should post your details, facelesscreature; it's a good idea to seek the opinions of multiple people on ideas and theories, I find.
