Well if this is the amount of work and detail they're putting into the teaser than I have all the confidence in the world that the show will turn out well.
I do like the visual style they're going for. The CGI looked pretty good for a TV show, it's very stylized. And it really looks as if they're going all out to capture the details of the books, the references in this teaser were impressive.
And I really like the tone they've set so far, that song paired with the creepy visuals managed to recreate the feeling I always had when reading the books. I'm really looking forward to this immensely.

Hmm I wonder if Netflix were to make 13 season for each book, which season would you be most excited for? Personally I'd love to see books 3,5,6,11,12 adapted

Interestingly there's a spyglass sitting on top of the newspaper, like the locket I'm thinking that's a reference to the movie. Truthfully I wouldn't mind them keeping the spyglass bit as there's little to no VFD in the early books, so adding in a few hints in those early stories would be great.

Okay so: Amanda Palmer, singer of The Dresden Dolls, shared the trailer in their official fanpage so it HAS to be official. She shared the one uploaded by the suspicious "Eleonora Poe" account, that one is HD.
ALSO, she's Neil Gaiman's wife, and Daniel Handler took part of "En garde!" with Neil, and AAAAA THIS HAS TO BE REAL THERE'S NO WAY IT'S FAKE.
I'm too excited because of this. I need more information or I'm going to die.

I agree with what you say about the references, Strangely. They would have had intentions when making this and I assume that one was to communicate 'we've read and understand the books'.

I get two feelings from this trailer - that they are doing the whole thing in one series, or that they aren't. The usage of items from book 12 hints to the first thing, but the lack of things from most books post TMM hints to the other.
I think, unless they are 60 minute plus episodes, or 13+ episode series', two series is what will probably happen. (S1 Books 1-7, S2 Books 8-13? That could work well)

Okay I'm so excited I'm re-watching the trailer in my office instead of doing my job and here's what I found that I think nobody mentioned yet:
-The Daily Punctilio is dated Friday April 27, 1984. We have a kind-of-official date for the Baudelaires parents death! We finally have dates OMG. -The tickets for The Marvelous Marriage are dated December 31. That means the Baudelaires lived with Olaf for nine months. That gives me hopes for a season for each book, or at least for a very detailed adaptation. -The tarot cards at the end, a reference to Madame Lulu! Also the only readable ones are "Death" and judging for the size, "Misfortune" -The hotel door key (Hotel Denouement probably) has the number 237 (as a Stephen King fan myself I'm so excited with this "The Shining" reference!!!). -The jars with what seems to be snake skin. -Ernest Hemingway's "The old man and the sea", I don't remember any reference in the books, but I can relate the content of the book to ASOUE. -"Main Street" by Sinclair Lewis. I don't remember any reference in the books, but I can relate the content of the book to ASOUE.

I would take the sea at the end to be a reference to book 13.

Marv I've since changed my mind about the song, it does fit in pretty well; I think I just disliked that kinda comedic piano plink at the end. It evoked a feeling that they'll make it more lighthearted than I'd like it to be, but I think it's too early to make such judgements about the series. I agree with Pevalwen that this is (if it really is official) just a hype teaser (similar to the teaser of Tarantino's The Hateful Eight last December, which was made&shown before any shooting had actually begun). Again, the scenery and attention to detail is indeed most promising.

Anyway I don't trust in HuffPost "they confirmed to us via email". Why would they do that and not a public announcement of its fakeness?

...Are they sure they weren't referring to the other upload which had a thumbnail from the 2004 movie? Because there's nothing from the 2004 movie in the trailer itself, nothing. I did think it was suspicious that the Snicket social media accounts hadn't passed this on, and I find it equally suspicious that there's no direct statement from Netflix themselves here. It could be plausible deniability as part of a teaser campaign - that wouldn't be unprecedented for the series.
I just don't see how a fan trailer could have those kinds of production values. There's something funny going on here.
