After completing TVV the other day, I think I might have realised something about Hector, though I may be totally wrong. Is Hector supposed to be Mexican? His name is Spanish (but can also be English; Sir Ector, anyone?), and he enjoys cooking/eating Mexican dishes. But is that enough evidence to support this idea? I mean, just because one enjoys food from a certain culture doesn't necessarily mean that they're connected to that culture in any way.* And there's the other theory that he's the brother of Ike & Gregor Anwhistle. *shrug* Just musing out loud. :/
*The same, I guess, goes to Hal. He makes Indian food, but I don't imagine him to be Indian himself.

I don't think Hector is necessarily a Spanish name, since it also appears in Greek myth. But you're certainly welcome to believe that Hector has Mexican roots.

I think of him as Mexican too - in my headcanon his surname is Ruiz. (You may be able to work out the reference.)
I think it's unlikely he is the missing Anwhistle sibling (I still support Humphrey), though now it's been revealed he was a volunteer it's harder to tell. (I would have thought the ages didn't fit, but Josephine has tuned out to be younger than you might have imagined, so that's hard to tell as well.) But he does say his family came from VFDevotees, and I don't think it's likely the Anwhistles did.
