Greedy buggers. (< In reference to the two-part situation. At least they're giving people options for dealing with it.)

Sounds awesome even if it is a huge cash grab.

I'd suggest going to pottermore for a less-skewed analysis. Though you all seem pretty disgruntled with the play, so maybe I should just go sit in a corner with my interest. While I think ticket prices are nuts, there's nothing Rowling can do about that, and she did co-write the play, alongside broadening the original idea the director and pllaywright came to her with. I imagine they'll be a recorded-with-the-original-cast-dvd whose sales will go to charity, both because Rowling may have control over that, and so those of us unable to go to London can see it if we so choose.

I was surprised when I saw the casting because I assumed they would go with people that looked like the movie characters, but I like it.

I'm happy they didn't, because if they had tried to, people would complain about the resemblance not being close enough.

I'm glad that the guy who plays Ron is tall and lean, like in the books. I'm not bothered about the non-resemblance in colours because makeup. You can draw on the freckles. I'm also glad that they cast a black woman as Hermione to give the play diversity. Harry looks great too, and with makeup and round glasses, I wouldn't mind awfully imagining him as the canon adult Harry. It's a shame that they look so old though. They were just innocent little children not so long ago... Ah well.

This behind the scenes thingy made for an event at Universal Orlando doesn't really tell you much about the play except for showing off the beautiful theatre - I'm genuinely impressed by how suitable for a Potter event it looks - and a little rationale for their greedy two-part thing - "throughout the day a community will be built".

That's a nice video, and now I'm more curious about the play.

Has anyone else read the script yet - or even seen the play? I just finished reading it. My thoughts on the plot would have to be reserved for a spoiler tag (I called it, incidentally), but as an overview, a couple of thoughts I have are... that it would almost certainly make more sense on the stage, and yet at the same time I have no idea how they could have pulled off half this stuff on the stage. But one thing I think is important to bear in mind is that I believe one of the intentions of the story was to, in a sense, bring the entire Harry Potter series to the stage; it's like a whistlestop tour of the series's greatest hits, including characters, locations, even moments straight from canon. There is a sense that they're packing everything in, but I think thiat's because they wanted to truly embrace the whole series in a new medium.

I absolutely agree. I think it will be interesting to get the other script next year, which will have whatever changes they made after previews (I think a lot of people forget this is the previews script). Incidentally, Rowling is trying to work out a filming/DVD of the play, so all fans can see it, which I think would help a great deal, since lines can't make up for the fact that this story was planned for a certain medium.
