Actually, I'm actually starting to like the pink. One thing I wasn't really considering is character arc. Perhaps in the beginning the children did dress brighter. Maybe as the series progresses the colors will dull to a degree and become more like what we had in the books. After all we know that Violet's dress is purple in the Reptile Room episodes, so perhaps that progression will continue. Thanks to that blueprint in the trailer it can be confirmed that this photo is indeed part of the Reptile Room; With this being the other angle: Can't wait to see Aunt Josephine's house.

Ditto about the clothes being outifts they hate--not worried there. And they probably only wear them for 1-3, as in 4 they probably get uniforms. Same for 5, then 6 they have Esmé clothes. Book 7 & 8 would be back to normal clothes, 9 would be Freak outfits, 10, snow gear/tattered freak outfits. Book 11... I can see them putting them in some kind of nautical outfit. Then 12 has the concierge uniforms.
So any concern about bright colors probably is kind of moot at this point.
Also, I was proud of myself for being able to identify Joan Cusack's voice immediately, but all the kids sound the same. Jacqueline is Mrs. Poe? Is that what got changed? And I'm super excited to see all the investigation bits.

We've hardly seen her acting so far, so I don't have any particular worries -- she looks scared, which I would expect her to. lol acting is more than just getting the correct emotion across. You'd have to be a sociopathic anti-actor to inexplicably be happy when the situation calls for scared, so that's not what I was thinking about. The thing you have to nail is being believable and not overdo it. As long as they don't water down her role as they did in the film then I'm happy; I want to see her leading the Baudelaires as she so often does, saving them all, being intelligent and brave and strong and confident and gutsy and hands-on. I don't want Klaus to get all the good action again, because Violet's such an amazing character and I hated how the film really reduced her role in favour of Klaus's. I definitely agree on this point.

Guys, I'm a bit worried about the reactions to the new teaser. Personally I loved it, but hell... regular people seem to only remember ASOUE from the movie. I hate how they are all disappointed on not seeing Jim Carrey or Emily Browning. As if ASOUE was only a funny eye candy piece of entertainment. No one seems to care about the mystery and the story. And it's worrying, because if this isn't the hit Netflix was expecting to, having a second or third season is gonna be a lot more complicated

Heath ledger casting for joker was met with so much hate. That's what people are doing here. Personally I was never a big fan of Jim Carey. He was good but never evil. I think this show will surprise people. But then again I'm an optimist so we will see

She seems too pretty (in overall appearance, incl. clothes, though not their color) to be a hands-on inventor "It was an emergency,” Violet said calmly. “So I picked the lock.” “How did you do that?” Mr Poe asked. “Nice girls shouldn’t know how to do such things.” “My sister is a nice girl,” Klaus said “and she knows how to do all sorts of things.

Of course it is, but as I said we've hardly seen her acting at all, so her wearing a scared expression and currently nothing more doesn't worry me. I would be very surprised if we saw her displaying a complex range of emotions in a highly subtle manner in one very short trailer! I didn't really see anything more from the other actors -- other, I suppose, than NPH, but we saw him more than the others.

The house looks ridiculously over the top; it's pretty much shouting "hey everyone, this house belongs to a villain and is a scary place!"
Not impressed with NPH's nose as seen from the front.
It's Violet's very neat hair that's worrying me. Yes, she can be pretty, but under the circumstances she probably shouldn't look like she just stepped out of the hairdressers.

Yes, that's kind of what I meant, but to me it also applies to her very neat clothing (as an inventor you usually have to get dirty and wrap up your sleeves, you sweat, etc) and maybe her make up (I think she has some on?). I wasn't really talking about her physical prettiness. Plus idk why people think I'm just going by this trailer. Quite a while ago I saw a bit of her acting in 'Supergirl' and other stuff (but mainly just snippets). This is not me crying wolf though or whatever, just a concern I felt like expressing and that's all (there was a thread for that, wasn't there? Oh well).

I was really excited for this show, but after that trailer all I can say is it sucks. I hope I'm wrong about it. lol a 53 second teaser, not even a trailer, teasing what will be a series that is approximately 7-8 hours in length has given you enough insight to say it will suck? It's not a lot to go on, but I generally can tell whether I'll like something from the trailer alone. That, along with the fact that I almost never like book to movie adaptions, is enough for me to go on.

This is not me crying wolf though or whatever, just a concern I felt like expressing and that's all (there was a thread for that, wasn't there? Oh well). I see what you mean, and like you I hope that they show her being very hands-on with her inventions, but as in The Bad Beginning she doesn't get to do that much inventing beyond her grappling hook, I'm not surprised she doesn't look like she's been handling rough mechanisms, etc. Obviously there are the chores that Count Olaf makes them all do, including repairing windows, cleaning the chimney and chopping wood, but as neither Klaus nor Sunny look like they've been doing strenuous work (or at least getting dirty through siting on the floor in Sunny's case), I don't yet see any problem in Violet looking neat; whatever scene they were filming, they're all looking clean and smart so they probably haven't been doing chores or, in Violet's case, inventing things, right beforehand. In regards to the quote, no they're not saying nice as in pretty, but there are lots of other occasions within the books when she is explicitly described as very pretty, by a few different people. Probably because in this conversation the only evidence of her acting that has been mentioned (at least recently) was the trailer. I understand more if you didn't like her acting in other things you've seen, though I would say that child actors can improve vastly quite quickly, and of course anyone can improve from role to role, so I'm still not concerned.

So teleram should've posted an appropriate quote and not a random one. I only remember Olaf and I think Fernald commenting on her prettiness. We've also seen some set photos of Violet in other scenes, and cropped pictures through Netflix's snapchat, where she also wears super neat, pink clothing.

I'm worried about them minimizing Violet's active role too, but the style and neatness of her clothes doesn't really add to that worry for me. We've only actually seen her in two outfits (the Snapchat one is the same as in the trailer, as is the new banner on the Netflix page for the show, btw), one of those being when they're going out to the movies with Monty so I don't imagine she'd be wearing coveralls. Besides, just because she's wearing a pretty dress doesn't mean she can't or won't get it dirty. I personally am gonna just keep hoping they do right by her character.

The house looks ridiculously over the top; it's pretty much shouting "hey everyone, this house belongs to a villain and is a scary place!" That describes almost all old houses that aren't maintained though. At least this house looks like it could have been nice and normal at one time whereas the movie version was just irregular to the point where the setup made little sense. This is starting to get nitpicky. Consider that the scene in the trailer is from their arrival to Olaf's. This means that that day she got up out of bed, got ready and rode in a car to her new guardians house. At what point was she inventing? Her clothing should be neat, it's usually the custom to put on clean clothing when you get up in the morning. Her hair should likewise be neat, she likely brushed it when she got ready as is the custom for many people. On top of that her hairstyle in this isn't complex, it's literally just long/straight hair with bangs. It not like it's cut in a fancy manner or made up of complex braids. As for makeup she's wearing little. Her lips and cheeks are the same color as Klaus's. She's wearing stage makeup of course, but every actor, even the baby, is. Too, Violet was very respectful of her parents. Likely they taught their children to be neat and clean when possible and likely the Baudelaire's tried to remain presentable even when living in less than optimal situations. At home Violet probably used an apron or coat while inventing in her spare time (In the movie she had a coat for when she invented in her room). And just because Violet is an inventor doesn't mean she's working with horrendously dirty parts, nor does it guarantee she's sweating either. The few inventions from her pre-fire life that are mentioned in the books are often small enough that she could have been working at a desk. So, there's a good chance that even when inventing she was keeping relatively neat and clean. And it's worrying, because if this isn't the hit Netflix was expecting to, having a second or third season is gonna be a lot more complicated The movie has a bit of a cult following. Remember it actually did pretty well in theaters. For a while it held the spot for top grossing Nickelodeon movie. The movie did manage to stay in the public consciousness and many people do remember it fondly. So, it's no shock that people are having this reaction, it comes with the territory for what is a nostalgic property. Plus, the internet is notorious for jumping to conclusions with extreme and uninformed opinions. Really, this is actually a good sign. It means that a lot of people still care for the property and likely many of those people will watch just out of curiosity and nostalgia. The first trailer has nearly 2.75 million views right now and that literally shows nothing. This trailer is already at 1.1 millions views and it's only been one day. That's a promising start, so I wouldn't worry too much yet. Keep in mind this is the amount of views and press when Netflix has only released a small amount of footage, a full trailer will likely shape opinions a bit more positively.
