I saw the theatrical trailer at Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, I don't remember everything in it, but here's what I do: - Lemony Snicket speaking to us in front of Mr. Poe at the bank - Count Olaf crashing into a hedge in Uncle Monty's lawn - Justice Strauss speaking to Count Olaf at the door. Count Olaf says "I'm sorry about the noise, I told them to cry with their inside voices" - The previously mentioned complaining about the ending. Count Olaf is usinf what seems to be a very poor German accent here Thank you for the info theplague. Did you happen to notice if there was any phrase that started with vfd? Just wondering if this theatrical trailer will contain the final website link? Also are you based in the U.S. and if you are, may I ask what theater chain you saw "Fantastic Beasts" at? I'm only asking because I'm trying to maximize the chance that I'll see the trailer too if I decide to go see the film. I was at a Harkins in the U.S., but unfortunately I didn't see an VFD phrases

I've also attached a picture of one of the VFD logos in the trailer... Does anybody have any idea what this fabric looking thing protruding from the top could possibly be? At the beginning of the clip, it is in the process of being swept out of frame, and then is briefly swung back in frame before the clip ends. I can't make heads or tails of it, though I'm thinking it might be something someone is using to clear what looks like sand from the logo (which is probably a trapdoor, judging from edges / handle thing in lower right / location on floor). Thoughts? Just going by intuition... I think it might be from the TMM episodes, and the sand is actually sawdust, while the fabric might belong to one of the Lucky Smells Lumbermill uniforms. Also I saw Fantastic Beasts today and there was no ASoUE trailer : ((( I wonder if that's for the whole UK or just for the cinema I've been to.

I already mentioned I saw the VFD symbol on the manhole cover in the shot of Justice Strauss's house.. but what if that has a connection to that shot of the sewer tunnel thing?

That's a good connection! I hadn't though of that. And what about the shot of Lemony coming out of the manhole? Do you think that's just a funny way of inserting him into the action, or if it suggests something further? (Also - I've been lurking for a while, but this is my first post - so yay!)

I already mentioned I saw the VFD symbol on the manhole cover in the shot of Justice Strauss's house.. but what if that has a connection to that shot of the sewer tunnel thing? That's very possible. The thing to remember is that the manhole is actually in front of Olaf's house and if his house is like nearly any other VFD house in the books that means there's a secret passageway connecting to someplace else.

I saw Fantastic beasts and sadly no trailer. I live in the US as well. I also work at a theater so my guess is that it is in select theaters where they can reach a lot of people. It's expensive to have your trailer playing in front of movies so I feel like Netflix chose several across the US to play the trailer.

No trailer in Chicago...at my theatre anyway. Hoping it shows uo somewhere soon.
ALSO. Someone said this...but I can't find it now.......but I bet we won't hear VFD till season two. This season will focus on "the mysterious eye that keeps showing up, that sort of thing.

Yeah, the response to this trailer has been really odd to me. I mean, okay, obviously the salty people are just a very vocal minority, if we're taking the likes and dislikes on the video as any sort of guide. But why are people so salty? From what I've seen, they fall into two camps.
First, there's the 2004 Movie fans, who always wanted a continuation of the movie, but will likely never see such a thing. I think these guys make up the majority of salty comments. They're mad it's not Jim Carrey, they're mad it isn't steampunk, they're mad about the internet existing, and they don't see the point in doing it all over again. But what I don't get, is that the Netflix series isn't erasing or invalidating the 2004 movie in any way. It's not like Paramount said "Oh, well, Netflix did it differently, so we're now burning all our film reels and recalling every DVD, BD, soundtrack and other piece of movie merch."
Then, there's the crowd of people who don't realize that what they envisioned in their heads as children isn't definitively how the books were. I think this is the camp of all the people who are claiming the series isn't a comedy, and should have no jokes or humor or cleverness at all. Their memories of Snicket's dry delivery have melted into the general narrative, and they're angry that someone could dare interpret the series differently. These also tend to be the people who are mad that Mr. Poe and Aunt Josephine are played by black actors, I think, which is a shame because K. Todd Freeman's Mr. Poe is hysterical, and spot on if you'll forgive the lack of coughing. These people tend not to currently be members of the fandom, because they lack awareness about the books' content.
Most book fans I've seen aren't salty about the trailer- They're either ecstatic, or nonplussed. Even the people who aren't into the trailer aren't salty, because they still have the books. Now, the show looks absolutely nothing like what I imagined when I first read the books, but that doesn't surprise me at all- The only person who could articulate what I had imagined is myself. The look of the show, however, isn't bad- I love the saturation and the symmetry, I like the off-kilter and odd CGI, and I think that all the actors look great in costume. Olaf and his disguises look like Olaf and his disguises, it's nothing like the radical reinvention they gave Leto's Joker.
(Also, sorry this post was so long.)

Also, despite his amusing in-character tweeting, NPH seems to understand that he is not actually Count Olaf, as evidenced by the fact that when the filming wrapped, he treated the cast to snow cones and cotton candy rather than bullets and dead rats.
