Truthfully I wouldn't mind of a couple of non-diegetic music moments used as a joke. Given the nature of the franchise that this is Lemony Snicket telling the story I think it's okay to have some moments like that (Especially since LS presence in the Baudelaire's portion is non-diegetic to begin with). If you're comparing it to the weird metatextual moments in the books like The Story of Queen Debbie and Her Boyfriend, Tony, then I could live with a joke musical scene if it was made clear that it didn't literally happen that way. But on reflection, I imagine any new musical scenes will be handled like the ones which are already in the books, which is to say that they're ludicrous and frankly irritating and the Baudelaires spend the whole time looking on in discomfort. Edit: I also had this faint idea that Handler might have had a cameo in the movie, too, but I may be remembering something different. Wasn't he the accordion player?

I'm gonna make a guess and say that if there's any real musical parts in the show it could be during the Marvelous Marriage or whatever that Egyptian play that Count Olaf is in, or just a short thing of Count Olaf singing in TBB since he's an actor, something like how he sings "joy, joy, happiness, my fortune's about to change" in the first teaser from Netflix perhaps. I'm not imagining there to be anything like Glee or whatever..at least I really hope not, cuz tbh I don't like that stuff very much
And about Daniel Handler playing Lemony Snicket, I honestly think he would have done great just standing there talking. I've seen many interviews, I've actually met him in person!, and just the way he talks is all kind of an act, very sarcastic and humorously performed. But at least now he can actually fool people by saying "I'm not Lemony Snicket" haha now Patrick W is

I kinda hope they use a Gothic Archies song in the show.. but I doubt they will. When I was reading the later books I listened to The Tragic Treasury album, and I think that kind of added some more feeling to ASOUE universe for me. If they did use one, I'd freak out.

I really think those of you worrying about the musical elements are making mountains out of molehills. Pushing Daisies (a series to which this one is said to have a similar feel and some co-creatives) had three musical moments in its first season, none lasting more than a minute at most that were used for comic effect, and all three moments solely featured two actresses known for their work in musical theater. They were incredibly minor moments that didn't impact the plot, and just came off as character quirks. And none of these instances were advertized pre-show.

"Pushing Daisies" is actually my personal favorite show of all time and the musical numbers are the only parts of the show I don't really like.

Maybe Daniel Handler will appear as the in universe version of Handler, Snicker's representative That would be a treat! It'd be a very smart way to make the series even more meta than it already is. Personally, I'm imagining Daniel Handler cameoing as Larry and it's suddenly all I want in life.

You're spoiling my Advent Calendar thing Quisby, dammit! Nah just kidding, but yes, I did notice it, which makes me think the man with the broom is indeed a volunteer who discovers Olaf identity and that leads to the little fight they have and that leads to the guy falling and being surrounded by the henchmen. I already posted it, but here it is, my super compilation of the trailers in an approximate chronological order

Aaaghhh that was so good! Really interesting to get a glimpse of how some of the clips we've seen are fitting together -- also I LOVED having some quotes almost directly taken from the book -- and to see how directly involved in the scenes Lemony will be.
