I have to say I really liked it. Very true to the book and the acting was good too. It makes me all the more excited to see the final product.

This live-read lifted my excitement levels to an all-new high. (Didn't think that was even possible!) Everything sounds really, really good! I love NPH's dedication to this world and his character. It was interesting to hear a bit of Lemony Snicket's backstory, even if it's just one line - that inclusion made me ecstatic, because it seems like he's going to be present in a lot of scenes and Lemony Snicket is my favorite character! Bring on January 13!

That reading was fantastic. I always thought Violet and Klaus should be more charming than they were in the movie.
I love you can see Violet trying to set a good example and be responsible for her siblings; "first impressions are often incorrect," "have you read any books in which..."
Snicket's distinctive narration looks to be there. They kept the Gorgonzola bit... classic!
The scene is structured around Olaf trying to terrify the children and continually dissapointed by their well-manneredness (and maybe state of lingereing detached shock). Some potentially great moments.

There you go Malina showing off those acting chops. I was getting worried that her lack of lines in the trailers was lack of confidence in her performance but this has quelled my fears. She plays Violet perfectly

Ahh, this was wonderful! Malina was wonderful, of course, but I was incredibly impressed by their chemistry. They bounced off each other effortlessly, and seemed to be having a load of fun. That's a really good sign!

Neil Patrick Harris is going to be on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, starting now! He’s most likely there to promote A Series of Unfortunate Events and I’m sure they’ll show a new clip! Tune in if you can!
EDIT: The interview is now over. It didn't provide much new information (they mostly talked about the disguises), but they did show a new clip! It was the Baudelaires meeting Count Olaf for the very first time and it. was. amazing. The tone felt just like the book. Also the music in the scene was great! Hopefully it's online soon!

So that would be when they first meet him with Mr. Poe, then and the scene with the reading is next. Is there any overlap?

We know a few moments, like "Wrong! It's a list" or "You haven't the faintest idea" but there are also some new moments, like the ironic statement Mr. Snicket says about how he can't say his name three times, even though he already did it. I think there was a similar moment to the book, although I can't remember what it was about.

Hopefully I've come to the right place to report this; it's my first post here on the forum. No doubt like most of you, I've been checking the Netflix ASOUE page on IMDb obsessively almost every day, and I have just noticed something rather peculiar there: the show's composer has changed. I believe that this must have been changed very recently, certainly within the last two or three days at most. The series' original composer Nick Urata has seemingly been replaced by highly esteemed, Academy Award-nominated composer James Newton Howard. We all know that IMDb isn't a particularly reputable source of information, but I can't see any reason for this to be fake. Personally, though I loved Urata's scores to films like Ruby Sparks, I'll admit I was a little disappointed when I originally heard, months ago, that he'd be composing for the show. My dream choice had been Danny Elfman at the time, though in light of this revelation I believe James Newton Howard will be just as good as (if not better than) Elfman, and is almost certainly a better choice stylistically than Urata. Furthermore, to add weight to this news: Apparently Howard, known for his particularly fast composing process, has a history of being brought on to projects as a replacement composer at the "last-minute" like this, when the producers and/or studio decide the original composer wasn't living up to expectations. Can it be true then? Has anybody else heard news on this? I've done some light scouring for information and found nothing changed anywhere but on IMDb. Will we get some sort of official confirmation before the show debuts? What are your thoughts?

Will we get some sort of official confirmation before the show debuts? What are your thoughts? I have experience following a project where James Newton Howard was made composer at the "last minute": The Hunger Games. I'm a huge fan of The Hunger Games, and James Newton Howard scored all of the films; however, the first film was going to be scored by, ironically, Danny Elfman, but then it was changed to Howard three months before the film's release. But back to ASOUE... like you said, IMDb is not a particularly reliable source, but this is a rather random change. When was the last mention of Nick Urata as the show's composer? Was it ever officially announced? I actually heard a bit of the score tonight in a new ASOUE clip that premiered on the Late Show. I'm not familiar with Urata's work, but the quick snippet did sound Howard-esque. I love Howard's scores, and I thought the music in the clip was perfect, so it'd be a wonderful coincidence-turned-surprise!

Lemona's live reactions to the reading:Aww I like that they got Daniel to read the screen directions or whatever you call them WHOA WOAH that line about saying "Count Olaf" three times in a row is from that interview with Leonard Marcus I transcribed! I've always liked the gag so I'm very happy it's in here. Still like the "WRONG it's a list" line even if nph overplays it. Heh Daniel's delivery of "the kitchen... which is a mess" was cute. NPH's arm-brandishing is cool. Meh the lines about the dinner parties, re-doing the ballroom floor, and the shampoo don't impress me. Ooh Violet and Klaus's little interaction about the first impressions thing was great. Shiny, shiny eyes. Of course. Huh I actually really liked Violet's line about the tattoo, both the words and the delivery. Very Snickety, in fact more like something you'd expect to hear from our narrator rather than a Baudelaire. Happy with the line about books with people making homes in difficult places. A perfect imitation of moments like the one in TEE about scylla and Charybdis. Woo the stuff about first impressions is lifted pretty much directly from TBB well done them. Hope Warburton's delivery does it justice. "That's the end." A very Daniel way to tell everyone that's the end. Violet and Klaus both killed it and I'm fairly confident about them now. My opinion of NPH hadn't really changed; still doubtful but not horrified. Daniel improved everything with his presence.

I'm not familiar with Urata's work, but the quick snippet did sound Howard-esque. I love Howard's scores, and I thought the music in the clip was perfect, so it'd be a wonderful coincidence-turned-surprise! I remember when that happened! I love The Hunger Games too, and much like you (I suppose) I was keeping a close eye on the movie's development. I remember suddenly stumbling upon the change of composer, and I recall thinking at the time - though I love both Elfman and Howard - that Howard was certainly a better fit for The Hunger Games. I wasn't expecting to find someone else who remembered that incident here! Now, to answer your question: yes -- Nick Urata was reportedly announced as the composer of the show some time ago (back in April, I believe), by a few sources. I even saw NPH himself mention Nick's work on the show somewhere recently. For memory, Neil said something along the lines of, "Nick Urata is writing the songs for the show". This was in an article I read just within the last week. So perhaps that's it. Maybe Urata was never meant as the show's main composer, but just the composer and/or lyricist of some or all of the songs? He definitely has been reported to be the composer by various sources, but they may have all had it worded incorrectly. Though, to me, it is more likely that Howard is just replacing Urata now, what with Howard's history of being a go-to last-minute savior. Who knows? Either way, this is certainly the first time that Howard's name has been publicly linked to the project anywhere that I've seen, and I've really done some looking. Last I checked - which was, for memory, two days ago - it still had Urata's name listed as composer on IMDb, so it is definitely a very recent change.
