Love the kids- They're so much better than the movie's kids. In the movie, I never could relate them to the Baudelaire children from the books- They were too perfect, if that makes sense. They looked older than I had imagined them, and showed far too little emotion. Violet's expression was stuck in an eternal unhappy wince, and Klaus transformed from the straight-laced sardonic bookworm to a driven, fiery hero. And Sunny was just there? These kids just feel right. This Violet gets mad, she has her hair down until she ties it up, and she actually invents things. This Klaus spends more time correcting people and making snarky remarks than saving the world. And Sunny? Don't know what she'll be like in the show, she wasn't in the trailer much, but she's friggin' adorable.
Oddly, I think adult Liam Aiken was a better child Lemony Snicket than child Liam Aiken was Klaus Baudelaire.

I'm definitely a fan of the more bookish look for Klaus; it's closer to the spirit of the original text and of Helquist's illustrations, though actually wearing glasses is obviously the biggest help in that regard. I find it interesting, too, that Violet's costume is less gothic than the movie, and more relateable. The Baudelaires look more like normal children here - or at least, normal children from the 1950s rather than the 1850s.

I really like each of them individually, they really look like I imagined them when reading the books (which probably mostly means they look similar to the illustrations). But I keep getting really annoyed with Klaus being slightly taller than Violet. It says somewhere in one of the books that Violet is tall for her age, and at their age girls are generally taller than boys because boys get their growth spurts later.

I love the kids, especially Sunny. She's really cute and has a very expressive face.
About Violet and Klaus, we have to consider they have to do at least (hopefully) two more seasons. They're gonna grow in that time because they're in that age, so I assume the decision considered it, and that's why they look younger and like they have the same age. Even when in the books not much time passes, we really see how they grow intelectually (in the series probably phisically too)

The Baudelaires look more like normal children here - or at least, normal children from the 1950s rather than the 1850s. I'd say the Netflix costumes mainly have 1960s influence and the movie was closer to 1890s

I only meant those dates very broadly, so if it troubles you, please mentally replace them with "mid-twentieth century" and "mid-nineteenth century."

Well, I really like show Klaus and think he is way better than the movie one. I am not a big fan of neither movie or show Violet. Honestly, I don't consider neither of them pretty and both look very different from how I imagined her. However, I agree with Dante on Violet's clothing. I prefer show's more modern one too. And I like that in show she is less of damsel in distress compared to the movie one.
