Dear Reader,
This story isn't in anyway related to the Baudelaire Orphans, but it is still a depressing tale, especially in regards to the state of V.F.D. at the time. The only thing that can make this even more unbearable is the fact that there are 3 different sides in this terrible series of unfortunate events not related to the Baudelaires.
There are no words to describe how sad this story is without mentioning such terribleness as a meeting disguised as a hotel party, a mysterious figurine, an unpleasant incident involving a train, a girl using disguises to spy on her enemies, and a mechanical monster from beneath the ocean.
If hearing three sides of a story regarding V.F.D. is something you would rather not do, then I recommend you read something else.
With all due respect,
ThatHoboRavioli

Oh well, I won't read it, then.
Actually, it looks very interesting, and I look forward to the first episode.

Letter from Connor Anthony Stark to Audrina Beatrice Clearwater Dear Audrey, This letter is essential to you and the other remaining noble people, and might be being chased by our enemies, especially a certain pair of villains that recently burned down the Parker house near the Orion Observatory. I have placed an important object inside a Vessel For Disaccharades and left it in a safe hidden beneath the remains of Dr. Montgomery's house. To get to the safe, you must open a Vernacularly Fastened Door containing the following passwords: the proper name of the Great Unknown, the Spanish word for a number, and the weapon that killed Dewey Denouement.
The meeting in the Hotel Preludio is in 3 days, and we must be able to exchange information by then, that is, if you are not trying to get Harold to fall in love with you during the party. For my part of the research, I will be looking through Olaf Manor alone in search of any important clues to our enemies' current activities. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you let my apprentice Wendelina come along with me to the abandoned house. You know how reckless she is, she could ruin the investigation by just blinking, a word which here means "mucking around with the things that were left in Olaf's house before his disappearance."
I hope that this letter does not fall on the wrong hands, or all our deeds will be in vain.
With all due respect, Connor Stark

Quite a few names here of varying degrees of familiarity; it's hard to be sure if they're allusions, or if I'm misremembering something completely different. An intriguing start, certainly; this evidently occurs after the end of the series, but by how long?

Probably misremembering...but the last 2 names in Connor's full name are kind of references. Audrey's middle name being Beatrice is a coincidence, and I don't really know anyone with the name Wendelina.
This takes place 10 months after The End Chapter Thirteen.

Looking forward to reading more; a very interesting start. Thanks! I'd like to hear some speculation from others on what might happen...because speculation is interesting for some reason.

Well, I do wonder if the "mysterious figurine" you mention is one of the quietly significant figurines from TCC which the sinister duo expressed an interest in in TSS.

I'm wondering, since this takes place after The End, if Frank or Ernest had children and named one of their sons Dewey, either because they too follow the tradition of the Baudelaires and Snickets or simply out of love. Though that would make Dewey rather young, so maybe you're just playing with coincidences.

Letter from Audrina Beatrice Clearwater to Connor Anthony Stark Dear Connor, I hope this letter reaches you and the others, which will be likely unless the crow delivering this message gets shot down. I have just won the Best Actress award at this year's Theater Festival, and trust me, it was difficult to get to my makeup room for me to write this letter with all the press surrounding the auditorium. You probably already know how much I like being alone unless I feel like being social. On the night you go to Olaf Manor, stop at Briny Beach. There, you will find a bottle containing a note addressed to L.S. Get that bottle and leave it near the remains of the burnt down Hotel Denouement. If all goes well (which I hope it does), you and W. must go to the site and an old car will arrive. I already had R, R, and R call L.S. via a telegram, so everything has been arranged. L.S. will give you a package containing a valuable figurine that could help turn the tide after so many losses. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES can you let the package fall into the wrong hands. When the party happens, I will reveal the information I was able to retrieve from my investigation into the activity of our enemies. It is pretty...intriguing. Anyway, I have to leave, go home, take a bath, and sleep. I hope you understand that this situation is very serious (because of how pessimistic and sarcastic you are). With all due respect, Audrey Clearwater P.S. Wendelina has potential. You just don't see it yet.

Although both letters resemble Kind Editor letters, there's clear continuity between them. The use of differing eye insignia to mark different writers is a nice touch, too. Is this a second side to the story? If so, whose will be the third?

Connor and his apprentice are one side, and Harold and Audrina...er...Audrey (I don't know why she prefers Audrey over Audrina) are two sides...side three would be those three "R"s, neither of which are the Duchess of Winnipeg.

Letter from Ronald Arthur Robert Brooks to Robyn Parker Dear Robyn, Hey, long time no see. I'm glad to hear you found a home in Audrina's mansion after the fire at your house. Things have been going pretty fine at the Herpetological Society. I've discovered a three-eyed komodo dragon, a two-headed cobra, and rediscovered something that Dr. Montgomery might like if he was still with us.
I can't wait to see you at the Hotel Preludio party in 3 days. Even R is pretty excited to see you (seeing how the two of you are friends and all that). H, C, W, and A will be there, and we might learn what our enemies have been up to (or what progress we have done with our research in our specific jobs). I know you can be good at writing down notes, so you might want to write down everything you have learned on your commonplace book.
It will be a while until we can have at least one victory against our enemies, but I think the disappearance of Count Olaf might be helpful in turning the tide, an expression which here means "prevail against the remaining villains."
With all due respect, Ronald Brooks

It's rare for us to get a glimpse inside the Herpetological Society; it sounds comparatively intrigue-free, unlike certain organisations which are secret rather than public. The mention of Olaf's disappearance makes me realise just now that the timespan between The End and Chapter Fourteen is quite an interesting one, where the Baudelaires and Count Olaf have simply disappeared and nobody knows what's become of them (well, depending on what became of the islanders, I suppose).

I intend on releasing chapter 1 in about a week.
Rating: 15+ (for strong language, three short scenes of nudity, and some violence.)
