Also, I thought Alfre Woodard did a good and interesting job as Aunt Josephine, and was different enough from Meryl. That said, I think what a lot of people picked up on as slight strangeness on her part may actually have been nerves - most actors have a deep, often outwardly apparent respect for Meryl Streep, and it has to be hard to follow her act, especially when Streep killed it the first time around and many of the lines are exactly the same as those from the movie, forcing Woodard to find another delivery that wasn't Meryl's. This is also the reason, I think, why they picked such a capable and respected actress as Woodard because of the tricky task of following Meryl Streep.

Violet and Klaus were approx. the same height in the Netflix series, but the books state quite clearly that Violet was taller.

Does anyone else think they might give Mr. Poe more depth in Season 2? He seemed like he genuinely cares about the Baudelaires in a few scenes, and was (slightly) more intelligent. His role of the gullible idiot who represents everything wrong with society as a whole gets taken over by society as a whole, and some pretty important things should happen to him around season 2: His bank gets robbed, he loses the Baudelaires again, his wife goes missing at some point, and if I got the right implication from The Unauthorized Autobiography, he doesn't think the newspaper's coverage of the Baudelaires has been very fair. (Maybe he'll believe that they murdered Count Olaf but also think they shouldn't be presented as cold blooded killers for killing someone who has caused them so much trouble.) Anyway I don't think people would want to watch so many extra scenes of Mr. Poe on his own if he still acts so unlikable the whole time.

I again just hope that Malina and Louis have grown as actors after last season. They need to be able to carry the show on their backs since they are the focus, I just want tad bit more nuance in their performances.

He seemed like he genuinely cares about the Baudelaires in a few scenes, and was (slightly) more intelligent. I don't think he really does care about them, in either the book or the tv show. In TMMP2, he was crying when he couldn't find the Baudelaires, but not because he was worried that something bad might happen to them, but because he wasn't going to get a promotion. And just look at this passage in TEE. "You don't have to worry about the Quagmires, either," Mr. Poe said confidently. "At least, not for much longer. I don't know if you happened to read the Mulctuary Money Management newsletter, but I have some very good news about your friends." "Gavu?" Sunny asked...
By "Gavu," for instance, she meant something along the lines of "The Quagmires have been found and rescued?" and Violet was quick to translate so Mr. Poe would understand.
"Better than that," Mr. Poe said. "I have been promoted. I am now the bank's Vice President in Charge of Orphan Affairs."
So it was more important to Mr. Poe to get a promotion than to rescue two children from the clutches of a known murderer. I honestly doubt that Mr. Poe cared very much about keeping Count Olaf away from the Baudelaires, but rather, wanted the public to think he was keeping Count Olaf away from them. Whether he actually did mattered very little to him. This would explain why he always chose never to believe the Baudelaires when they told him Count Olaf was in disguise. He couldn't have genuinely been that dumb, or he would never have been able to become a banker.

Violet and Klaus were approx. the same height in the Netflix series, but the books state quite clearly that Violet was taller. Klaus was taller than Violet in the movie. That is exactly what I'm worried about happening in the show. It's almost inevitable. Louis Hynes is over a year older than Malina Weissman, and it shows. Hynes captured Klaus's character really well, and he's a great actor; he really is. But at 14, he was simply too old to play a boy who is 12 at the beginning of the series and turns 13 halfway-through. The only reason it worked for this first season is because he's a late bloomer, but he'll be 16 or 17 by the third season, and will undoubtedly be around 6 feet tall and have a man's voice. This, of course, won't be his fault, and I'm sure his acting will get even better, but the dynamic between Violet and Klaus is just going to look very awkward.

I do think that Mr. Poe cares about the Baudelaires, I just think that he doesn't suffer terribly deep emotions and finds it hard to appreciate the gravity of anything outside his small inner world. There's really nothing in the books that points to Mr. Poe as a calculating individual whose only concern is for his own personal reputation. It's certainly one of his concerns, and it's a major concern, but it is by no means his only concern. After all, if he were really a calculating and clever individual, he'd have spotted Count Olaf in a heartbeat or taken more serious steps to apprehend him, because that would both solve the Baudelaire problem so that he wouldn't have to spend time on them again, and be a tremendous publicity coup for himself and his bank.

Louis won't be 6 feet tall not even close. Casting a boy his age for a younger role is practical choice done often in the industry. Given the nature of the story and the length it will take to finish filming it had to be done. Most boys, statistically, finish the most drastic of their growth in height by 15 and only grow slightly from their tapering off at 20. If Louis was going to be 6 feet he would have already reached that height by now, it would be an extreme anomaly for him to grow another foot and some inches considering that the growth spurt phase ends at 15. Louis will likely end up being 5'6 which is considered average male height globally by the age of 20. Had they cast a boy at the age of 12 he would likely end up being taller than Violet any ways and that difference would likely be far more noticeable than it is now considering it would have been more of a gamble not knowing where the boy would likely taper off at. The voice never stops changing but patterns of how deep the voice will be for the breadth of one's life can be discerned in the teen years. Louis voice will likely deep slightly but not drastically and it will likely not be noticeable during the series.

I think he should spend all his free time walking around with bricks on his head to stop himself from growing

Maybe it was just me, but I laughed rather hard at Dr. Orwell's line to Klaus;
"Is this a bottle blonde or a natural?!"
Hahaha, she's so vain and not afraid to admit it.
I knew she would be a perfect choice, in any role.

Since I am a devoted fan of freak trio, I was looking forward for their cast. Well, I am OK with their cast. I wasn't dissapointed with the cast because I didn't expect much from it. But I wasn't excited about cast either. Unlike the majority, I don't find series Kevin particularly handsome. I find my headcanon Kevin way more attractive but it's just my opinion.
