No work of literature is perfect; we all must have our pet peeves about this and that in A Series of Unfortunate Events. So let's hear it: if you were rewriting the series and had lease to change one thing about it, what would it be? Can be anything from giving another character a cameo in TPP to removing or adding a Baudelaire sibling. Go wild, 667.

It is very, very (as many very's as are in the page in TRR about not fiddling with electrical devices) difficult to only pick one, but I know what I would choose. The children would get in the cab in TPP. I am dying to know what would have happened if they would have gotten in the cab instead of allowing Mr. Poe to push them back into the Hotel Denouement.
EDIT: I later realized the word on the page in TRR is ever, and not very, so now I would say "as many very's are there are evers."

I think it'd be mildly entertaining to add a Baudelaire sibling who "wasn't quite good at anything" or didn't excel at any particular skill. Name him "Horace." We could even make him a year younger than Violet and a year older than Klaus and (maybe) just cut Sunny altogether.
It would be especially fitting to have him do essentially nothing all series but save the day at the Hotel Denouement - succesully evacuating everyone before it goes down in flames.

I would like Isadora and Duncan to have much more pagetime than they actually did, as they are my two favourite characters.

After a while, the whole theme of "adults are either evil or too clueless to do anything" gets super tiring for me. But I guess that can't be helped.
Other than that, I of course wished Klaus and Isadora were officially a thing lol

I don't want to change the actual story, but I would very much prefer if the earlier books were as long as the later books.

Does rewriting the last three books count as one thing? π

Does rewriting the last three books count as one thing? π Probably not but I'm still curious, what would you change if you did?

I just feel like, he's building up too many questions and bringing in too many new relations without tying up any ends. Don't get me wrong, I love the series as a whole, but it seems a bit like he doesn't necessarily know the background for all the mysteries he's created himself and is too lazy to actually try and solve them in the end. Especially The Penultimate Peril just annoyed me.

Probably the whole situation with HOIG. Second priority would be to fix minor continuity issues. Beyond that, I'd like some of the themes of later books to be hinted at earlier, giving them more time for development - specifically, Sunny's cooking ability. I honestly don't think I'd want to place hints of VFD in the first four books - I loved how the Netflix show did that, but I wouldn't want the books themselves changed, since I've grown to really enjoy watching Handler turning elements from the early books into parts of a conspiracy.

I would correct the typo found in the Sebald code in TPP. And I would pay special attention to the whistles that were used to command the eagles. It would just be a whistle that would have a special shape and make a very specific sound.

I would have liked to have seen EsmΓ©βs cocktail party plot in TPP actually happen. I was very curious for the whole book about what she was up to, and we never got to find out! I wonder what she needed electric eels for?

I would've like to see more of Olaf's troupe get more speaking time throughout the series. Also have the first two (The Bald Man and Henchperson) not die in THH and TCC, but leave Olaf along with the White Faced Women like in the Netflix version.

I would've liked to have a little more closure on characters' fates. At the very least have the Quagmires be ok.
