That seems a bit of a stretch. You might have been better off substituting Violet's microscope, or something involving burnt toast.

But the interesting wall question Dante ... Have we considered that the Baudelaire Mansion fire may have been completely accidental?
This situation seems to agree with the main tone of the series: misfortunes simply happen to good people, sometimes without logical explanation. And besides, it would be a great irony if unknowingly the Baudelaire siblings themselves were accidentally to blame for their own misfortunes. And besides, Bear seems to like it, and I have my suspicions about his true identity.
And besides, the accidental fire would explain why for about 14 years there was an apparent truce between the Incendiary side and the fire-extinguishing side. If the sugar bowl caused a situation of mutual destruction ensured like a cold war, an accidental fire caused an imbalance of forces.
And besides, the whole plot of arson only surfaced from TAA. After all, the incendiary side of Olaf was not explored in TBB, TRR, TWW, TMM.

Aside from his sudden and very insistent statement that arson be included among his crimes in TWW (p. 207). Even if there's no evidence that the Baudelaire fire was arson, a reasonably intelligent reader will naturally draw the connection back to TBB. It's certainly true that fire and arson were major motifs until later on, but they are established early.

When I just read the title of the thread, I thought you might say something like he left an extra pair of glasses by a window, and the refraction of light started the fire.
I just don't think a simple battery operated flashlight could start a fire. I think the batteries would die before that could happen.

I've also thought about the possibility that the Baudelaire fire have been an accident like jeanlucio I think it would bee even more sad. But I was thinking that perhaps one of violet's inventions malfunction, overheat etc.

I'm really ashamed to answer that question so directly, but I can say DH.

Why on earth do you think that? If anyone, I suspect Dante.

Oh no ... You still don't know DH's personality well. DH has a very strong pride of his own, thinks he's smart, has an acid and profane sense of humor, loves word games and, despite having an interest in ASOUE, he detests adults who care a lot about it. That is bear's definition.

Bear is a well-established person whose real name is known to many of us, and who has been seen on hangouts. He is not DH.
If DH is here, he must be someone who rarely posts.

It was .really my father’s suspicion, not mine, but I have decided to look into it myself.
