Why did the kids stay on the island after Olaf's death?

You're outright forgetting the plot of the book, lsandthebooks. The Baudelaires stayed on the island for a year because they couldn't leave; only on a single day of each year, Decision Day, do the tides of the island cause the coastal shelf to be sufficiently flooded for it to be possible to sail a bot away (The End, p. 50).

But when Olaf and kit died it was decision day I think he means why not leave that very same day.
Perhaps they were still in shock after everything that happens the dead of kit,olaf and the islanders deserting them.Another aspect to consider is Beatrice II being a new born May not have survived the voyage.

Because they didn't have a boat. The islanders had taken off on their own outrigger and abandoned the Baudelaires, the Baudelaires' own boat was wrecked and needed repairing, and Kit's vaporetto of favourite detritus was evidently not especially seaworthy.

Even if they could have left, they weren't going to leave Kit behind while she was giving birth to her daughter, and by the time the baby had come, it was the morning of the next day. They couldn't leave her! Then the baby would have no one to take care of her, and trust me, newborns are helpless.

They're right, that was exactly what I meant. And in the end of Book 13 (when they finally left the island a year later), Violet repaired the boat fast:

"So we're really leaving," Violet said, and they really were. After a good night's sleep, the Baudelaires began to prepare for their voyage, and it was true they didn't need much. Sunny was able to pack a great deal of food that would be perfect for the journey, and even managed to sneak in a few luxuries, such as some roe she had harvested from local fishes, and a somewhat bitter but still tasty apple pie. So as you can see, Violet repaired the boat pretty quickly...she always repairs and invents things very fast.

Coincidently I was thinking this. Violet always invent thing in the knick of time, Like after the carnivorous carnival with the brakes/glue. could she really not have saved Kit herself? by saving her I mean inventing something that would carry her instead of asking Olaf for help.
