So, I was thinking of writing an ASOUE superhero AU, and I was wondering if you had any further ideas, I have worked out many of the characters’ powers:
Violet: Energy manipulation Klaus: Telepathy and photographic memory Sunny: Her teeth Esmé: Any item of clothing she puts on moulds to fit her size and personal tastes; can control large crowds of people, uniting their minds into one. Count Olaf: Shapeshifting Kit: Turning back time and healing Lemony: Can see the history of an object or place Jacques: Impossible to lie to Carmelita: Telekinetic voice Beatrice: Flying, can talk to bats Josephine: Can sense upcoming danger Monty: Can talk to snakes Georgina: Hypnosis
I have also worked out a bit of a plot, which I won’t spoil for you. If anyone has any suggestions for building the world of this AU, please tell me. I think I already mentioned the superhero AU idea, didn’t I?

I think to emulate a little ASOUE, it would be nice if the Baudelaires didn't know anything about VFD at the beginning of the story. They would however have great potential for having superpowers by being part of special families, who reached a level of intellectual knowledge and wisdom who were able to alter their DNA in order to make their descendants manifest superpowers after training exhaustive schooling at a certain age - that's why kidnappings still in childhood.

Most of that is definitely going in there, but the story is post canon and Sunny, the main character, is twelve years old.

And seriously ... Is there no one with the power to create and control fire?

Yes, the WWHBNB. She can control all four elements, while the MWBBNH can control any animal.

Ok ... I also think that to emulate ASOUE it is necessary for superheroes to be secret. Unlike conventional superhero stories where they wear colorful uniforms and expose themselves to the public in a very obvious way (sometimes with masks), VFD superheroes need to act secretly.
Also, to emulate ASOUE it is important that there is no big boss in VFD. In addition, there must be a constant moral game about what should be the best course of action when dealing with criminals: should they be re-educated or should they be punished? I think it would be nice to show both sides of the issue, but do it in a subtle way, so that this issue just goes unnoticed by inattentive readers.
I think it would be nice to show that there is a portion of society that still trusts the police and official firefighters, who do not use superpowers.
I think it would be nice to have a heroic backstory, involving saving a crowd from a big fire.
VFD started with a colossal fire. A city that was on fire was saved unexpectedly by a group of people that prevented the deaths of more than three hundred people and ended the flames. I think that would be an interesting reference to the great Chicago fire, which in this universe would have had a very different end thanks to the use of superpowers. In order to emulate ASOUE's confusing chronology, this event could have been "recent" but at the same time other well-known fires could also have occurred recently, like last year's California fires.

It would also be interesting to put natural catastrophes to be fought at the same time that moral issues involving VFD are unfolding, clearly showing that nature does not care about human schisms. (I think this is a very cool concept). You know, if heroes needed to deal with a reference to Hurricane Catrina (which would be a reference to Hurricane Herman)

Some of those ideas are fascinating and I will certainly use them, thanks.

Interesting, I think it would be very interesting to see a superhero version of ASOUE. It'd be like a dark version of The Incredibles
