The Snicket Family/Clan tree is one of the most secretive of families throughout the series of ASOUE. One thing that is interesting is that all the Snicket children have a theme of naming each new child a different letter of the alphabet. From A. Snicket to O. Snicket (who I'm sure is Olivia). One branch on the tree D's Children, the girl with the one eyebrow and one ear. The children being G, H, I. It's a common theory/fact that D maybe Josephine's mother in law aka the mother of both Issac "Ike" and Gregor Anwhistle.
But who is H Anwhistle? Now some believe it to be Hector, however I disagree. One because Hector's family has been said to have been two generations of handyman at the Village of Fowl Devotees which would imply that he was born there. We also know that Ike and Gregor were possibly raised in Lake Lachrymose like Josephine.
Two Hector never mentions having any siblings in TVV. This may be either he doesn't like to talk about out it or he tries to hide the fact that he was a volunteer. I think however the most likely is that he never had any to talk about.
And three, his first name doesn't really reference anything to the rest of the Anwhistles. For example Josephine is named after Josephine the Singer or the Mouse Folk by Franz Kafka and Gregor is named after the character Gregor Samsa from The Metamorphosis also by Kafka. Plus Ike Anwhistle sounds like I Can Whistle as a fun fact. Now from what we know Hector's name is based of the famous Greek legendary hero from The Iliad by Homer.
A Greek warrior who after offending the gods of Olympus, is blown off course by Poseidon and faced with many perils to return home to his fiance in waiting. Hector's airship may be an illusion to the journey the character takes. I'm not sure if this is close connection to the Anwhistles or not with Kafkaesque names. But the likely hood of Hector being an Anwhistle is within doubt. Which opens us this thread's question: who do you think is H. Anwhistle?
