An ATWQ Netflix show is unlikely primarily because the financial incentives aren't there, I think, rather than anything to do with the series's actual ending. (ASOUE doesn't have much of a screen-friendly ending, either.) Nonetheless, your alternative ending idea is interesting. Do you think it might seem too mysterious for uninitiated viewers, though? They might not recognize Beatrice or understand her significance.

The title of the thread is a little more hopeful than its content. Dante’s reply is relevant to your point: It's difficult not to take this with more than a pinch of salt. Joe Tracz didn't think an ATWQ series was very likely, and, much though it pains me to say it, ATWQ never set the world on fire, and the ASoUE adaptation never seemed to get much in the way of mainstream attention, either - outside of its links with Neil Patrick Harris, who has no obvious role in ATWQ. It's worth noting that that description of the show is taken verbatim from the Kindle edition of ?1 (yes, down to the "before the invention of Netflix" line). Nonetheless, it would be very interesting to see a television adaptation of ATWQ - a tightened-up version, too (my recent reread of ?4 turned up more than a few inconsistencies). And I do think ATWQ would probably be easier to adapt, overall; shared setting, emphasis on returning characters... By analogy to the ASoUE adaptation, they could knock out ATWQ in a single series - but File Under is there for filler material that could stretch it out to two series; the main questions as openers and finales, with case-of-the-weeks padding it out. Or would they be more likely to release each book individually as a sort of extended telemovie?

I really think the future of asoue adaptations should turn to fanfic. The universe created by Daniel Handler is easy to be expanded and explored in many different times. I would create a mini-series called VFD Agents, where some ATWQ and LSTUA stories could be explored, but I wouldn't limit myself to that. I would do a really Noir series aimed at 12 to 16 year olds. It would be something inspired by ATWQ. Something like Dick Tracy with less colors and younger characters. Could Lemony be the main character? Maybe... But I think it would be more interesting to follow Kit Snciket too. It would be interesting to have an episode for Kit, with an almost completely original story, interspersed with the familiar ATWQ story.
And about Lemony's story, in addition to adapting the 4 main books, it would be nice to have episodes where File Under 13 is adapted. You could easily make a 24-episode series.
