I should really do other stuff here than just posting fics, esp. just lematrice fics, and I will, but for now, here's another one
Love Conquers Nearly Everything
Beatrice was cleaning her drawers. She had told her children not to enter her room, because cleaning might uncover old v.f.d documents, which she certainly didn't want them seeing. She had emptied the drawer. At the very bottom lay a small diary. A scrapbook. Beatrice picked it up and gave out a little gasp. She opened to the first page.
It was a picture of a root beer float.
Her first time meeting him. He'd embarrassed her in front of her friends. He'd apologised, and they'd hung out afterwards. Root beer floats were his favourite drink, and he'd made her love them too.
A picture of a bat.
Baticeer. An anagram for Beatrice. They'd invented the term together, after much thought. It was a secret code, a signal. My baticeer, he'd always called her fondly.
A picture of a cave
She'd realised for the first time that she was starting to fall in love with him. He'd convinced R to let him be her partner on their climbing excursion. It was also the first time she'd laughed that hard.
A picture of a hat pin.
She'd dropped it while taking her bows. It had been a signal that it was safe for them to meet for their midnight root beer float. She still remembered her costume, though thankfully she never had to wear it again.
A picture of the v.f.d eye
They'd both had the symbol on their ankles, though now Beatrice always kept it covered. They'd both been somewhat of the outcasts, the only ones who hesitated in putting the organisation above themselves. That was another reason she'd loved him so much.
A picture of a spoon and straw side by side.
Root beer floats. Same place. She remembered it so well. She'd always loved it. A shared spoon and a shared straw. The spoon slipping between their hands and the straw slipping between their lips.
A picture of two hands intertwined
Him and her. The way her hand fit perfectly in his. The way being with him always gave her a pleasant shiver, no matter how long she'd known him for. How she always loved holding his hand.
A picture of a ring.
The last time they'd had a root beer float together. He had proposed. She had been so happy. She'd returned the ring later, along with a letter. He'd sent a reply. It had broken her heart, if that was possible with it already shattered so much. She hated doing this to him.
Beatrice turned to the last page, and gave a choked sob. She whispered the inscription at the back of the diary to herself.
