I have made some attempts at creating a language. I first had the idea as a very young child and sometimes made up a few words or sentences and once a whole writing system. The first time I tried properly and with some sort of structure was at school, where I did an extra course about constructed languages. We learned some basic stuff about linguistics, and the aim was for everyone to create their own language, but I don't think anyone finished (as much as a language can ever be finished) theirs within the year. I tried to pick it up again a few times, especially when I was at university studying linguistics (inspired by that course) and had a friend who was quite advanced with hers and she did a lot of it during lessons. I always enjoyed making up the grammar and rules, but struggled with the phonetics part and making up the words, because all words are actually noises and I really hate noises.

At the moment I'm creating a "language" from Portuguese and sign language. Many deaf people have difficulty understanding written Portuguese. When they need to write something, they use a simplified form of Portuguese, but because there are no rules, each deaf person writes in a different way. I want to write this simplified Portuguese for the deaf in a way that it is possible for the deaf to communicate better with each other through written language and at the same time hearing people can easily send written messages and receive written messages in a way that deaf and hearing people can understand each other. I want to use a complex text like "Litory Intelligences" in order to exemplify that it is possible to write anything in that language. I'm still at the beginning. But I think it's a project that could be really useful.

I've never actually tried before but as a spec fic writer I have a lot of ideas for constructed languages for my novels.
