handwriting. what do you think of yours? have you ever changed your handwriting on purpose? or is it similar to your childhood handwriting? or does it change without your realizing? what's your favorite type of handwriting? have you ever encountered someone with handwriting exactly like yours? share a sample of your handwriting with us, if you'd like.
fun fact: the dates for almost all of emily dickinson's poems are estimations based on her handwriting, which changed so much that it could be used to identify the specific year and even the time of year. but it all looks equally unreadable to me.
speaking of which, how good are you at deciphering handwriting? i have basically no luck with anything before this century.

im pretty good with illegibility, i have rather messy cursive. but i print my notes if i need them to be legible, and aim to re-write them or type them up to study later. i like how everyone's writing has personality. french handwriting is so eerie to me because it is all uniform.

im not sure i would like it if people thought my handwriting reflected my Personality, because it is pretty crude and undignified. basically a slightly more controlled version of my handwriting at 11 or 12.
I can write a schoolboy cursive, if need be, at a medium-slow pace, but I’ve forgotten the shapes of some of the capitals.
I’m not aware of the uniformity of French handwriting. ive probably got a sample of my former tutor’s handwriting around somewhere….

Also someone made me notice that my handwriting is kind of a combination between my parents' handwriting??? That's wild

did your parents teach you to write? my parents' writing looks nothing like mine, although all 3 of us are left-handed. well, here is my old tutor's handwriting, lol. sorry for snitching. i just noticed that he makes his "9"s the same way (like a g) that my italian professors do. so that must be a continental thing. and here are some of my old notes. i picked this page cuz it has greek on it, and i think it's funny how my handwriting is the same in different alphabets.

Funny, I just talked about handwriting with a coworker the other day. He says he's left-handed, but as a kid was told to learn writing with his right hand. He is unhappy with his handwriting, and says he could write the same word five times and it would look five different ways.
I like my handwriting because it's not too neat but legible, and somewhat unique. A few people have commented on it in my life, with one saying it looked like a font from an indie movie, lol. I think I've stuck with the handwriting I have since I was 18, and it probably evolved in small ways at ages 15-17. I think I only ever consciously changed the way I write an "a" (in my teens), which looks like the typewritten a rather than the round cursive-type a.
And I do little speech bubbles (like in comics) to insert words in a longer handwritten text where I forgot them (or want to add them retroactively). One of my high school teachers said she could always tell it was my text when she saw those.
I also have the ability to write very small, but I'm not particularly good at deciphering sloppy handwriting.

the only time anyone commented on my handwriting is when a teacher in middle school called it "chicken scratch." in my experience, that type of lowercase "a" is a hallmark of the bubbly handwriting adopted by young girls. i consciously started putting a dash through my 7s in the year 2007, when a local author signed a book for me and wrote the date with a 7 like that. i just thought it looked cool. but 3-4 years ago i started putting a dash in my Zs, because they actually looked way too much like my 2s.

My handwriting is pretty neat, if a bit on the larger side. I can't write cursive though.

I’m not aware of the uniformity of French handwriting. actually, i have noticed that every time french people write in all caps, they still put a dot over the I. i think that's a french thing, anyway.

I really love writing by hand so I decided to be extra and answer your questions on paper.

I was taught a specific way of joint up writing in primary school and we weren't allowed to do it any other way for 4 years. After that I spent a few years constantly changing my handwriting, I will see how many samples of different handwritings I can find from ages 11-13. In the end it turned out that the easiest/most comfortable handwriting for me is mostly just really tiny and that's anyone every says if they comment on it. Isadora Is a Door made me change my Is because he said people in the UK wouldn't think they are Is but I'm not sure if I believe him.

in my experience, that type of lowercase "a" is a hallmark of the bubbly handwriting adopted by young girls. that bubbly handwriting can use either type of lower-case a, and my writing is pretty angular. i consciously started putting a dash through my 7s in the year 2007, when a local author signed a book for me and wrote the date with a 7 like that. i just thought it looked cool. but 3-4 years ago i started putting a dash in my Zs, because they actually looked way too much like my 2s. i also dash my z's, my 7's, and my dreams.
