i don't suppose i've spoken about this much on here but i used to make the odd music video montage when i was younger on youtube.
i love to film and document mini vlogs of what i'm doing and always intended to make a proper channel but never got around to it due to not quite having enough time to dedicate to consistent production. in early high school, i helped film and edit a channel for my best friend, who was teased mercilessly because of it. semb and i said we would encourage eachother to make our respective channels at the same time last september, life got in the way.
there used to be a lot in the creation of videos for fun, not for audience, publicity - i think the virtual space has warped considerably from what we grew up on, like ryan higa and figures of that era, a good deal alike how online discourse has shifted from forums, to tweets, to wherever we are going now.
as someone who is a bit of a film archivist because i have a horrible memory, i'm contemplating how to document my experiences whilst also being respectful of being perceived, from friends and family in video, to how to show my face and not feel horrible about it. i have so much footage, i'm not sure how i would even collate everything, posting from theme or date or some in the present some in the past ?
basically a bit of a brain dump but hopefully some questions for you
i. what do you miss about the old internet ?
ii. what is your opinion on the shift of being creative for fun online to the reductive "content creation"
iii. what kind of content do you watch on youtube ?
iv. if you're not into vlogs, what sort of thing would interest you in that realm ?
v. did you have any people at your high school or social circles make channels ? how was it seen ?

ah, the good old days of youtube…. that was my whole life in middle school, 2011-12. I met a guy who had a dorky gaming channel which amused me very much, so I made my own channel pretending to be his best friend that was basically a merciless parody of his channel. but then we really did become best friends and the channel became more straightforward comedy vlogs and skits. at my height I had probably 10 kids from school watching regularly, lol. but I heard that one class used to pull up my videos on the smartboard during study hall. 😎 I feel like I already witnessed YouTubers getting overcommercialized at that time, and it’s been pretty much the same since then.. like when somebody bought an HD camera and started using custom thumbnails, that meant to me that they had “sold out”… also people already had lots of garbage merch back then. twigz the world needs to see your vids if they’re anything like that one with the coffee

I still have a channel that sporadically posts theories about asoue... huge videos, in Portuguese, that I sincerely believed that no one without their conscience would watch, but some videos have more than 100 views... My channel is called Beatrice Está Viva. I don't know exactly what the "old internet" is, because when I was a teenager I didn't have free internet access. And when I got access to the internet anytime I wanted (in my early 20s I think) I avoided social media almost completely.
I started to get a little involved with social media only around the time of the first season of the Netflix asoue series, precisely because of asoue. Then that's it.
