Hi, I just started rereading the A Series Of Unfortunate Events books for the first time in a long time (since I was a kid really) and I’ve been really enjoying them so far and this series has become my new favorite fictional series.
But I want to know if it’s okay if I just read the first three chapters and bits and pieces of The Vile Village and just read the rest of the plot and what happens on Wikipedia and skipped to the 8th book.
The reason I did this because I wanted to get to the 8th book so badly because I’ve read these books before and I vividly remember the 8th book being the best of the bunch and I was in a rush to get into the real meat of the story of ASOUE where the Baudelaires are claimed to be murderers.
I just finished reading The Hostile Hospital and it was even more amazing than I even remember it being.

I think it's okay. You can always go back to the book at a later date if you really want to.

I’m new to the fandom, so I’m not at all aware of how unpopular The Miserable Mill is, but I liked how it broke the formula of the first three books and I reading about Klaus getting hypnotized and I liked that Violet and Klaus had to basically learn to switch places with each other to defeat Olaf’s plan and that Violet had to learn how to unhypnotize Klaus. But that’s just me though and I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite book in the series by stretch of imagination, I’d say my favorites so far are The Hostile Hospital, The Austere Academy and The Ersatz Elevator.

Yeah I put The Austere Academy second because I loved meeting the Quagmire Triplets and it was so cool for Violet, Klaus and Sunny to meet some friends of their own around their age that they could relate to and I liked hearing about V.F.D. for the first time and the cliffhanger at the end. But it’s cool meet another who has The Hostile Hospital as their favorite and as has the same favorite books as mine. I’m sure once I’ve read The Carnivorous Carnival all the way through, it will become my new favorite book too, haha.

My favorite thing about TVV is the Gothic Archies song "Crows" which is really only VV-adjacent anyway.

It's rare to have people with tastes similar to mine. I loved TMM, but many say it's the worst of the books. As an asoue theorist, I rarely read the books in order, even the chapters of the books... After all, everyone enjoys asoue in their own way. And somehow I'm always rereading LSTUA and TBL. Have you read these?

The first time I read TMM I found it so boring that I almost quite the series, but it's grown on me and now I think it's one of the lesser books but not as bad as its reputation. On the flip side, while I've never ranked it very high, during the reread I'm currently on I found TVV worse than I remembered, not terrible but just meh, made worse by the fact that it's sandwiched between my two favourite books.

Violet's invention in TVV is what upsets me the most.

It's actually the first Lemony Snicket book I ever read, but it's fine, I guess.
