Which book do you think would make the best standalone film in similar vein to the 2004 film and why?
Oh and Merry Christmas everyone!!! I hope everyone here has a wonderful holidays!!!

The Miserable Mill. I think with some changes, it could be a very fun movie. It also doesn't rely much on past books(besides the Baudelaire Fire happening and knowing who Count Olaf is), nor does it add much to the future books.

The Wide Window. It's the most adventurous and the odyseey across Lake Lachrymose in the stolen sailboat could be extended into an awesome action sequence. Just like TMM, it has no connection to the overarching plot.

Without a doubt the Penultimate Peril. We'd need some background though.

We'd need some background though. Hopefully a new name as well. Perhaps Horrible Hotel.

TPP is a terrible suggestion bee.
TAA would work well as a standalone plot, though I don't think it would be that interesting. I also think you could make TCC work without too much fiddling. The end also works.

You did not just insult my favorite book! Them's fighting words! Let me rephrase what I said. I think it’s the worst book of the earlier books…but I don’t think it’s the worst book…not by a long shot. I enjoy it more than books 9-11 if it makes you feel any better. 😉

The Hostile Hospital would make for a good horror film. It has a few references to previous books but not that much.

I agree, THH would be an interesting horror story for children, but more material would need to be added, I think, to make it interesting. And maybe reduce the Last Chance part.
