I don't know if this has been done recently (Namely because all the threads I found on this were from two decades ago) but what's your ranking of the books (specifically, the ASOUE books)? Mine personally is:

i'm sure i've done this before, i would be interested to see if it's changed. also somebody should crunch the numbers to get the 667 average ranking. it looks like there's some significant disagreements.

TGG a clunker it's probably TGG. gross how he invented a love interest for Klaus. and Olaf is at his most silly, Widdershins is annoying, and the nautical theme is generally a bit of a rehash of TWW. the reinvention of the hook-handed man as "Fernald" is stoopid, like the kind of desperate "revelations" they put into hoary movie franchises to keep people's interest. also Klaus pooh-poohs Lewis Carroll. |

I am mostly upset with TGG because I think it is a book that has so much potential, but doesn't deliver that well.

TGG is a book with no plot. Its amazing how little actually happens in it.

As an asoue theorist, I love TGG because it's when the mysteries are embraced more strongly and a lot starts happening off-camera. Revelations are made and we have an underwater setting. It's a return to the guardian, but no longer a traditional guardian.
