I wouldnt be suprised. He obviousley wants the Buadelaires parents dead. When he found out about ZITS he probably only wanted to be the actor to kill the surviving parent. But if he was in it wouldnt the Buadelaires reconize him?

ZITS was when Olaf was young, didn't u see the pic? Obviously the baud parents would have still been alive.

This thoery is a little far fetched but maybe the survior in the snowman was from the Snicket Fire. Cauze it happened a while before the Buadelaire. Just a guess.
